President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner suspended her trip to Santa Fe, due to the presence of volcanic ash in the skies of the southern part of the province, presidential spokesperson, Alfredo Scoccimarro announced. Thus, the presidential activities have been rescheduled for next Tuesday at 12 pm.
The President was due to travel today to Santa Fe to visit the General Motors Factory, and to inaugurate the eighth Agro-Industrial PYME Exhibition in place in the area of Las Parejas.
Fernández de Kirchner was due to land at Rosario airport at 11.10 am, to be taken by helicopter afterward to the factory, located along National Route 9 at kilometre 278 in the area of General Alvear.
After a new conciliatory gesture from the White House, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met with newly appointed Argentine ambassador to the US Jorge Argüello at the Olivos presidential residency, and instructed him to improve bilateral ties “to their best possible levels.”
According to official sources, the Head of State summoned Argüello to the residence this morning, where they met privately for over 90 minutes, discussing the bilateral agenda.
Fernández de Kirchner and Argüello – who is still Argentina’s ambassador to the UN – discussed issues that ranged from balancing trade with the US to international terrorism, a subject that directly affects Argentina due to its current situation with Iran.
During the meeting, the President insisted that she’s intent on solving any existing conflicts between both nations, including the ongoing dispute with two US companies, who won a legal battle against Argentina before the ICSID.
Argüello’s approval as the new ambassador may take a few weeks due to bureaucratic formalities, but the US Department of State has already said it approves his appointment.
Argüello will replace current ambassador to the US Alfredo Chiaradía.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner met with the new president of the Argentine Episcopal Conference (CEA), Monsignor José María Arancedo.
The Head of State decided to meet with the Santa Fe province archibishop after he was named as the new Episcopate leader on Tuesday for a three year term, replacing Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio.
Arancedo arrived at the Government House driving a Citroen C3 car at a 6.15 pm, but Fernández de Kirchner remained more time than expected in the Olivos presidential residence and only arrived to the Government House after 7.30 pm.
During the 102nd CEA assembly, which took place in the Cenáculo complex in the Greater Buenos Aires area of Pilar, the 84 bishops with right to vote chose Arancedo as president, with Neuquén archibishop Virginio Bressanelli as first Vice-president and Salta province archibishop Mario Cargnello as second Vice-president.
Seventy one year old Arancedo, a first cousin of late former president Raúl Alfonsín, per the Government’s viewpoint, has a more «moderate» political management than Bergoglio, who left his post after six years and a little over a month before presenting his retirement as Buenos Archibishop on his 75th birthday.

Mientras tanto….”TRAJE A RAYAS PARA TODOS Y TODAS”.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said that “the investment in this area wasn’t done casually” while inaugurating the Airport University in the Greater Buenos Aires area of Ezeiza and said Dulce Granados will become the district’s next Mayor “because I will support her.
The Head of State stressed that the Government and the country share a commitment to education” and recalled that “during a long time, we were seen as a bad example, as if we were less valuable than other countries. Adjustment guidelines en up sinking economies, thus we have to keep up the industrialization and value-added policy in our exports.”
Argentina’s trade surplus reached 1.27 billion dollars in October, a 30 percent increase when compared to October of 2010, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced.

The President provided this information while she was giving a press conference to announce the creation of a Biometrical Identification Programme, aimed at expanding security among the population.
Fernández de Kirchner was joined by Security Minister Julio Alak, Security Minister Nilda Garré and Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo.

During the G20 meeting in Cannes, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner called today for world leaders to put a stop to the current “anarchistic economic capitalism” and regulate the markets, not the countries, to go back to what she referred to as “real capitalism” after three years of world economic crisis.
“What I am putting forward is to move back to real capitalism, because what we are experiencing now is not capitalism. This is a complete anarchistic slant on financial capitalism, where no-one controls anyone,” stated Fernández de Kirchner during the business meeting.
The head of State later affirmed that “it’s time for the world to change its current situation, even though to be able to change, it is necessary to address certain interests, small but powerful.”
“Many times it can be better to face those powerful interests, which in the future will face the fury of society. I tell those, due to the experience Argentine lived through in 2001,” underlined the President before businessmen and authorities of the Business-20 in Cannes.
The President earlier praised the achievements made in Argentina, underlining the increased productivity, particularly placing a focus on technology and science. Later in her speech also looked upon what changes need to be made within the country, with regard to the urbanization of rural areas. Fernández de Kirchner praised the young professionals who «move to larger cities to study» helping to further develop society in smaller towns.
The meeting took place in the Martínez Hotel in Cannes, where the head of state was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Héctor Timerman, Agriculture Minister, Julián Domínguez, Labour Minister, Carlos Tomada and Industry Minister Débora Giorgi as well as the presidential spokesperson, Alfredo Scoccimarro.
A few minutes after 1:30 pm, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner landed in Nice, where she was greeted by the Argentine ambassador in Paris, Aldo Ferrer, and from there will travel by land to Cannes, where she will take part in the G20 Summit on Thursday and Friday.
She is expected to meet privately with US president Barack Obama on Friday.
According to official sources, after flying from Barcelona to Nice, the Head of State was greeted by Ferrer and taken to the Majestic Hotel in Cannes, where she will be staying during the Summit.
On Wednesday, she is scheduled to meet with representatives from the International Labour Organization, where she will be joined by Labour Minister Carlos Tomada and other union leaders from around the world.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner blasted UATRE farm hands union protesters who set a roadblock in the Ricchieri highway today. «That wasn’t social protest, but a ridiculous ploy,» she said, before boarding the Tango 01 presidential plane en route to France, where she’s due to attend the G20 Summit.
Earlier, Fenrández de Kirchner urged citizens “not to protest on the streets, but to do so on sidewalks and squares,” while inaugurating new infrastructure of the Churruca hospital via video conference from the Government House.
“I say something that angered me today. That roadblock on the Richieri highway, led by UATRE farm hands union, had to be controlled by over a hundred of highly specialized agents. It’s almost a crime to remove agents that are looking after other people,” Fernández de Kirchner stated.
“We won’t criminalize social protests, but what happened today wasn’t a social protest but a ridiculous ploy by people wanting to be detrimental on fellow citizens,” she added.
Although her itinerary was not officially published yet, the head of state traveled with her daughter Florencia, on board the private presidential aircraft, Tango 01, which left 8 pm from the military sector of the Metropolitan airport.
On Thursday Fernández de Kirchner will attend the opening of the G20, made up by South Africa, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, United States of America, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, Russia, Turkey and the European Union.
Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, left for Cannes last night to prepare for the summit. Economy Minister and recently elected vice-president, Amado Boudou will also attend the meeting on behalf of Argentina, and is to travel to France later today.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner sent a letter offering her deepest sympathies to the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after learning that her mother, Dorothy Rodham, had passed away on Tuesday.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of your mother, Dorothy Rodham. I know there are no words of comfort for whenever we lose someone we love, but I am sure that your strength and determination will help you carry on,” the letter sent by the President said.
“I would like to join you and your family in this moment, and send you my condolences on behalf of the Argentine Government and the Argentina people,” the letter finishes.
Only a few days ago, Clinton had called President Fernández de Kirchner in order to congratulate her on her October 23rd reelection.
During that call, Hillary called for both governments to “renew their commitment to a strong, successful relationship,” after a series of diplomatic spats this year.
President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with Fernández de Kirchner this Friday in Cannes while they’re both attending to the G20 Summit.
The US Government confirmed that president Barack Obama is scheduled to meet privately with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on Friday. The meeting will take place in Cannes, France, one day after the G20 Summit begins.
According to US National Security Deputy Advisor Ben Rhodes, the meeting will be “an important opportunity” for both countries to discuss their future relationship after the “up and downs” it’s been going through in the last couple of years.
“We’ve had some up and downs in our bilateral relationship in the last couple of years, but we firmly believe that whenever there’s an election and a leader is reelected, it represents an opportunity to strengthen our relations and establish a base for cooperation,” Rhodes stated.
The White House official also said that the interview will be an opportunity for Obama to “personally congratulate Fernández de Kirchner on her reelection.”
“We see this as an opportunity, after the President’s reelection, to make a turn into a more positive relationship,” he concluded.
A meeting between Obama and Fernández de Kirchner came at the request of the US Government, who in the last couple of days has signaled heavily on their intentions to renew their relationship with Argentina.
President Fernández de Kirchner is scheduled to leave for Cannes on Tuesday at 8 pm, and she is expected to land there by Wednesday afternoon.
Along with the President, Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman and Economy Minister Amado Boudou will also be attending the summit.
The last time Obama and Fernández de Kirchner met face to face was in April, 2010 during the Nuclear Security World Summit in Washington.
The head of the Argentina’s powerful CGT labour confederation renewed his claims for the approval of the profit sharing bill to allow workers to be part of the businesses’ profits, during a rally to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of Néstor Kirchner.
“That is the real improvement of the model, the participation of workers in the profits,” Moyano assured at the Felipe Vallese room at the headquarters of the CGT.
The head of the organized labour union umbrella called “the current” and “future” lawmakers to remember this petition of the CGT.
The latest statements from Moyano who has been cornered by President Cristina Fernandez landslide victory, and only managed to have one union member elected to the Lower House (his youngest son) come when even his grip over organized labour is in doubt.
Following the Sunday victory Moyano ratified his allegiance to CFK government, although he warned that the CGT umbrella organization “would not stop asking for what belongs to them.”
“We will continue to support the President” he said, a day after the celebrations at the Plaza de Mayo, which strangely didn’t include him.
He also said that the election results “evidenced that people wanted this change, and that old policies no longer work in this country.”
Later on speaking at a radio show, Moyano said Cristina Fernández’ re-election was “new history being written in Argentina,” and considered that “those who insisted on that same old story, saying that things couldn’t be changed, are the ones being defeated today.”
He then recalled the huge role that his organization played during the 2008 conflict with farmers, when he came out in support of the President when a large percentage of the population seemed to be against her.
“We’re the ones who stood by the Government; because I’m not sure how things would have ended had the pot bangers from Recoleta (the icon neighbourhood of Buenos Aires City rich and famous) taken over the Plaza de Mayo” underlined Moyano.
In a previous radio show he called on the new congress to follow with the Peronist doctrine.
“We believe we have the right to tell our Government what Peronism is and demand that they follow the Peronist doctrine: we need to expand the fight to help those who have less. That is what the next debate is going to be about” said Moyano.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner attended a small private ceremony at the Río Gallegos cemetery and paid tribute to his late husband and former president, Néstor Carlos Kirchner, on the first anniversary of his death.
Likewise, the Head of State in company of her two children Florencia and Máximo, inaugurated the monumental mausoleum built at the local cemetery where the remains of the former president will be transfered.
Relatives and friends of the family were present at the ceremony along with some government officials.
As of 2pm, the mausoleum will open its doors to the public. It can only be visited by ten people at a time.
The mausoleum, built by the businessman, Lázaro Báez, a personal friend of the late former president, is 11 metres high, and took eight months of intensive work.
The province is providing 350 police officers to maintain order among the persons queuing to visit Kirchner’s final resting place.
Alos, in the Santa Cruz café where the former president drank his last coffee, a commemorative plaque will be placed on the table and seat where he sat before his death.
Fernández de Kirchner arrived yesterday to Río Gallegos along with minister Fernández; Intelligent Service head, Héctor Icazuriaga; Presidential Secretary Oscar Parrilli; Legal and Technical Secretary, Carlos Zannini; and Communications Secretary Jaun Manuel Abal Medina.
Meanwhile, at 5pm, CGT Labour Confederation boss, Hugo Moyano, will lead a tribute rally at the CGT headquarters.
US President Barack Obama has requested to meet with recently reelected President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner during the next G20 summit to be held on the 3rd and 4th of November in Cannes, France.
The request came through Dan Restrepo, from the Latin American Office in the White House, who contacted the Argentine Foreign Ministry to request a meeting with the President.
Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman replied that Fernández de Kirchner had cleared him to coordinate the details of the meeting, which is expected to take place in France in the first days of November.
President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner urged City Mayor Mauricio Macri to join the National Government in its efforts to clean up the Riachuelo, the country’s most polluted river.
“We ask those on the other side of the Riachuelo to make the same efforts we’re making, because Argentina belongs to all of us. We ask for those who have more to help us clean the river. I know there are generous souls over there that will help us,” she stated.
In her first public appeareance since her reelection victory, Fernández de Kirchner assured that the National, Provincial and area municipalities are helping with the cleaning process, and even suggested that «it should be renamed” once it is definitely clean.
She then addressed last Sunday’s presidential elections and thanked the voters for supporting her, adding that they showed that “this is the path to take,” and then «vowed to keep working to recover the time that Argentina lost.”
“This is the path we will continue to take. Every day people are moved to keep working precisely by their decisiveness, love and for those things we still need to complete,” she concluded.
The US Government congratulated President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner after being reelected and assured that it will continue to work with the Argentine government to strengthen bilateral ties, State Department spokesman for Latin America William Ostick said.
“We congratulate President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and the people and Government of Argentina,” an email sent by Ostick.
“The United States looks forward to working productively with the future Fernandez de Kirchner Administration,” it added.
“The United States and Argentina share a history of cooperation, and we will continue to work to strengthen and deepen our partnership. We value Argentina’s dedication to democratic governance, human rights, regional stability, and global peace and security,” the mail concludes.
Bilateral relations between Argentina and the US went through some rough patch when last February 10th the local government seized cargo from a US military plane that had landed in Ezeiza for some special forces training, after authorities assured they were carrying illegal weaponry and medicine.

Union for Social Development’s presidential candidate Ricardo Alfonsin acknowledged his defeat and congratulated President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner for her victory in the elections.
“We want to congratulate the president,” Alfonsín stated during a press conference, and added that he will “continue working” for the Radical Party (UCR).
UDESO’s candidate assured “we are fighting the second place” with Socialist Hermes Binner and that “beyond the result, there are two million and a half people that voted us and that trusted our behaviour and proposals.”
Reelected President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner urged Argentines to join in “national unity” and asked to “avoid being distracted by useless confrontations.”
“If there are things that can be improved, then they should tell us how to do it, but we have to become a different country, in which whoever comes next gets to build on top of what their predecessors already built,” she stated.
“I dream of an Argentina that has continuity, and for that continuity to become a national project,” the President added.
She also highlighted that during her political career she reached levels “she had never dreamed of,” and stressed that she is a 58-year old woman who wants “nothing but to keep expanding her political project, aimed at helping improving the life of 40 million Argentines.”
“I’m not motivated by any interests, except for the profound love I feel for Argentina,” she said.
The president made these statements at the Victory Front headquarters in the Interamericano Hotel, in downtown Buenos Aires.
Emotional. That was how Cristina Fernández de Kirchner appeared to be in different parts of the speech she gave during the rally that ended her campaign,in the Coliseo theatre,in a roomful of supporters. The Head of State gave a speech that appealed to all voters. “ I must coordinate the interests of the 40 million Argentines,” thus she called for national unity and joint efforts to keep on growing. She also recalled her late husband, President Néstor Kirchner and, fighting back tears, she thanked her children, Máximo and Florencia for their support.
Despite that there supposed to be two speakers at the rally, Fernández de Kirchner and and running mate Amado Boudou, the President arrived at the Coliseo theatre shortly after 7.30 pm and walked directly to the stand. She called for national unity, but warned that nobody is impartial in the fight and that she isn’t neutral. She also warned union and business sectors that her priority will always be “social integration and the defence of the most vulnerable sectors.”
Keeping their faith in certain rituals, Kirchnerism chose the same theatre which they used to close their campaign before August primaries. Militants, most of them members of La Cámpora political group, governors and most of the Cabinet members arrived early. Before beginning her speech, Fernández de Kirchner introduced the protagonists os her multiple tv spots and explained when and how she had first met them. According to official sources, that was spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro’s idea.
In another passage of her speech, which lasted nearly half an hour, the President that in light of the global economic crisis, “Argentina has to double its efforts” to deepen the model and asked all those sectors that defend their own interests that she must “coordinate the effort of 40 million Argentines.”
“I will always be on the side of those who fight against inequality, and of those who defend the more vulnerable sectors and social integration, because this is not a fight with impartial actors and I’m not neutral,” she stated.
Economy Minister and Vice-Presidential candidate Amado Boudou assured that “President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s presence and speech suggest that this Argentina is very different from the one we had in 2003.”
“Cristina will make sure that we have an Argentina for 40 million people, for business people, for workers, for everyone,” he assured.
As he left the Coliseo Theatre in the City, he added that “we now have a great commitment and our governments, this one as much as the previous one, with the policies they enacted, have tried something that never been tried in Argentina.”
Argentine Rural Society’s head, Hugo Biolcati, praised the visit President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner made to Coninagro farmers’ federation, but emphasized that “the claims from our sector will keep coming.”
Biolcati remarked that “it was a nice gesture” to see the president meeting with coninagro’s head, Carlos Garetto, and added: “But the problems are still struggling, and claims won’t stop.”
Even though, the SRA leader indicated that the President “showed a change of attitude, and a very important political sign”, he also warned “But it doesn’t mean that there’s going to be a change of the agricultural policies, or that she [Fernández de Kirchner] will finally recognize our claims. Anyway, I saw it as a sincere approach to the farming sector, and not as a mere campaigning act.”
The head of the Argentine Agrarian Federation (FAA in Spanish), Eduardo Buzzi, came on stage to throw some piquant critiques on to the meeting that President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner had yesterday with Coninagro farming association’s head Carlos Garetto, as he considered “it was just a campaign act.”
Likewise, Buzzi remarked that “even though yesterday’s meeting, there is no clue whatsoever of a possible change in agricultural policies”
Furthermore, the FAA’s head indicated that “What happened yesterday was a clearly attempt to install a campaign message saying that the government made peace with the farming sector, but everything is just the way it was before with the government benefitting large producers and harming the small and medium ones.”
Following the visit to the Coninagro farming association yesterday, and just days before she is expected to be re-elected, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner went to visit the city of Gualeguaychú in Entre Ríos province, in the mark of the city’s 228th anniversary.
During her visit, Fernández de Kirchner assured that Argentina “is better prepared than ever” to face the world crisis, and asked for international entities to “change their doctors and medicine” when suggesting measures for escaping the crisis.
“Today we are able to say to Argentines that in a world that is suffering a downhill struggle, we are better prepared than ever to face a difficult world; as long as they apply the same measures that we applied to escape the 2001 crisis,” the President stated.
The ceremony took place in front of Colón Square, where Entre Ríos governor, Serio Urribarri, and mayor, Juan José Bahillo amongst other authority figures were present alongside businessmen from commercial, industrial and production sectors. Political directors and unionists were also present.
During the ceremony the head of State inaugurated the Granja Tres Arroyos plant by videoconference, which has brand-new equipment installed as part of a 35 million peso investment.
After meeting with President Cristina Fernández de Kircher, Coninagro leader Carlos Garetto assured that the President “remains committed to helping the farming sector,” and said that he considered the conflict sparked between her Government and the rural organizations after Resolution 125 “to be over.”
“Nothing good came from it, neither for the Government nor the farmers,” he assured.
“We’ve exchanged ideas, projects and concerns. The meeting was very positive. We’ve had a very complicated relationship for the last four years,” he said after meeting for lunch with the President and Agriculture Minister Julián Domínguez at the Coninagro offices.
“We have to discuss our perspectives for the future through dialogue,” he said when he addressed the current state of the relationship between the Government and the farming sector.
During the meeting, Garetto said they discussed the ban on wheat grain trade, the creation of more jobs in the farming sector, the Land Ownership Law and the current situation of producers around the country.
Garetto also revealed that the President “recalled the times of the Resolution 125, a conflicto that helped neither the government nor us. We don’t want to go down the road of confrontation.”
When asked about a possible conflict with the other farming organizations that are a part of the Liaison Table, he stated that “the Table remains because despite its beginnings it now has a shared history and common concerns.”
“Our goal is articulating the state with the farming sector. The world is in need of food and exporting labor is dignifying, and that is the best way of distributing wealth,” he concluded.
While attending a meeting at the Coninagro headquarters on Monday, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner assured that controversial Trade Secretary Guillermo Moreno “is doing a very good job.”
According to sources that were present at the meeting, the President defended the Trade Secretary by assuring he was doing a very good job.
Her statements come amidst a new scandal involving the Government official after he allegedly assaulted a PRO militant last Saturday.
According to witnesses, Moreno attacked a close aid to Vicente López’s mayoral candidate Jorge Macri, City Mayor Mauricio Macri’s cousin.
This prompted many opposition officials to demand his resignation.
But this isn’t the first time that the President stands by her controversial “price sheriff.”
In a public ceremony back in June 2008, the President staunchly defended him and stressed that “he does his job, which is defending the money of Argentine consumers.”
“Moreno is mean, it’s true. Whoever says that, they’re right. He is mean. But Government officials aren’t paid to be nice or mean, they are paid to do their job. And the job of a Trade Secretary is to precisely look after the money of Argentine consumers,” she had said.
The Secretary General to the President informed that Cristina Fernández de Kirchner had suspended Friday’s activities, which included a visit to the Coninagro agricultural centre, on discovering the news of Elvio Macchi’s death, partner of Social Development Minister, Alicia Kirchner.
According to the statement released to the press, “due to the news of Elvio Macchi’s death, the colleague of the Social Development Minister, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has reprogrammed her activities, postponing all official visits to next week.”
The Malvinas government responded to the Argentine ambassador to United Nations Jorge Arguello for his comments on the islands sovereignty claim. Arguello stated on Thursday islanders relied heavily on social benefits granted by the United Kingdom.
“England knows that if it cuts the social assistance and employment budget of the islands as it has done with other citizens, it will lead to the emigration to Argentina or South America, where the opposite thing is happening.”
The government of the Islands responded Aguello in its twitter account (http://twitter.com/#!/falklandsgov) and fought the Ambassador words. Thus, they declared themselves “auto sufficient” apart from being able to defend themselves.
“Jorge Arguello with some poorly researched comments. Bar defense we are self sufficient. No UK payments are received. We deal in facts.”
