Acorralado por un escándalo de corrupción, renunció el presidente alemán

Christian Wulff presentó su dimisión luego de que la Justicia solicitara su desafuero por un caso de tráfico de influencias.
El presidente alemán, Christian Wulff, dimitió esta mañana acosado por varios escándalos de corrupción. La Fiscalía de la ciudad de Hannover había pedido ayer que se le levantara la inmunidad para que pudiera ser procesado.

Los fiscales aseguraron que contaban con «indicios concretos y suficientes» para sentarlo ante un tribunal de justicia. La Cámara alta del Parlamento alemán tenía pensado levantar la inmunidad de Wulff en una sesión especial prevista para el próximo 27 de febrero.

Wulff, en un breve discurso televisado en directo, dijo esta mañana que «la confianza» que le tenían los ciudadanos se había visto «afectada». Reconoció haber cometido errores pero no pidió disculpas. Por esa pérdida de confianza «ya no me es posible ejercer mis funciones. Por eso dimito».

Wulff es presidente desde junio de 2010 -en Alemania, al presidente de la República lo elige el Parlamento y no los ciudadanos- cuando se marchó dando un portazo el anterior jefe del Estado, el también conservador Horst Köhler.

El presidente federal alemán no tiene poderes ejecutivos, pero sí un papel de guía moral y creador de consensos entre las fuerzas políticas para el que Wulff ya no estaba capacitado después de la publicación de sus escándalos.

La caída de Wulff es un duro palo para la canciller Angela Merkel. El gobierno de Merkel había sostenido a Wulff contra viento y marea después de que en diciembre empezaran a salir varios escándalos en los que Wulff estaría implicado, como un crédito hipotecario recibido en condiciones muy ventajosas.

Además, Wulff amenazó a varios medios de comunicación alemanes para que los casos de corrupción no fueran publicados. Incluso dejó un mensaje en el teléfono del editor general del diario «Bild» -que leen cada día 8 millones de alemanes- amenazándole con «una guerra» si la información era publicada. Pero el «Bild» no se achantó y dio gran difusión a la noticia.

Merkel tuvo que suspender esta mañana una visita a Italia, donde debía reunirse con el primer ministro Mario Monti. Merkel anunció esta mañana que respetaba la decisión de Wulff y que buscaría el consenso de todos los partidos políticos para elegir a un nuevo presidente. La canciller añadió que el dimitido presidente «decidió dar un paso atrás y poner los intereses generales por delante de los suyos».

La jefa de gobierno anunció que entablará conversaciones con la oposición «para proponer un candidato común». La elección de un presidente de consenso sería diferente a lo que hizo Merkel en 2010, cuando impuso a Wulff contra la opinión de socialdemócratas y ecologistas y contra los sondeos que decían que los alemanes no lo veían como una figura de consenso.

ESCANDALOSAMENTE INDIGNANTE

Una cachetada a la ciudadanía del 100%.
Los argentinos ya tenemos perfectamente en claro los ardides, triquiñuelas, trucos y demás tretas que utiliza el oficialismo para tratar de tapar el desquicio que fue sembrando a lo largo de casi una década y cuyos resultados, lenta pero sin pausa ni interrupciones, sus malignos efectos, se empiezan a vislumbrar con toda la crudeza.

Todo el discurso de los Kirchner, en particular ahora de Cristina, sobre su infalible y sacrosanto modelo económico se va derrumbando y haciéndose añicos con las consecuentes penurias para la defraudada población que votó masivamente a la Sra. de Kirchner.
El modelo de Cristina era una pésima fantasía de su febril mentalidad.
Frases pronunciadas por la presidenta, todavía muy recientes, suenan casi a una cruel burla para los argentinos. “Bajo ningún concepto realizaremos ajustes que afecten a los argentinos”, “La crisis mundial no nos afectará” o zonceras casi infantiles, verdaderas estupideces, de ese mismo tenor.
Pero no hay dejar de señalar una característica de Cristina, como también lo fue de Néstor: la terquedad. Sigue con las funciones teatrales, con los espectáculos circenses, con los teleteatros sentimentales y los shows. Termina y empieza otro. Solo para nombrar los últimos, porque sino la lista sería demasiada extensa: la tiroides y el cáncer, la pelea con Moyano, la reforma constitucional, las Malvinas, el amigo de Boudou, etc.
El objetivo es que la gente no piense o distraerla del desastre que se avecina. Busca tapar el sol con las manos. Toda patraña, falsedad, engaño y mala fe.
Pero esta semana la ciudadanía se vio sorprendida por algo absolutamente real. Algo tan real como que: ¡los senadores y diputados aumentaron sus dietas en un 100%!
Casi no se puede dar crédito por semejante desfachatez. Una verdadera burla y cachetazo al grueso de la población
En momentos en que se le exige a la ciudadanía ajustarse los cinturones por el ajuste salvaje y el tarifazo que se avecina inexorablemente, extender su propio certificado de pobreza para demostrar si es necesario o no el subsidio que nadie pidió, en que la inflación real muestra indicios de seguir su inexorable marcha ascendente para competir con los países de mayor inflación en el mundo, en que se vacían diferentes cajas de organismos estatales para intentar la continuidad de la “fiesta” kirchnerista, este aumento, en el presente situación económica del país, parece como mínimo absolutamente inoportuno
No solo absolutamente inoportuno, sino también irritativo por la escandalosa magnitud del aumento. ¡Nada menos que el 100%!
Desde ya no estoy cuestionando los que los legisladores deberían ganar. Es más, considero que tienen que estar bien remunerados para poder abocarse con todo sus esfuerzos y con el máximo rendimiento, a la labor a la cual para la cual fueron elegidos por el pueblo.
Sabiamente la Constitución Nacional de 1853 imponía como una condición para ser senador poseer una renta anual de 2.000 pesos fuertes. (ref.1)
Las nuevas dietas oscilarían entre 30.000 y 35.000 pesos mensuales. A ello habría que adicionarle 20 pasajes aéreos y 20 terrestres que reciben cada legislador por mes. En caso de alguno no sea utilizado, o inclusive la totalidad de ellos si así lo decide el legislador, podrán ser canjeados por dinero en efectivo a razón de 550 pesos cada uno.
Tanto en el año 2010 y el corriente la mayoría de los legisladores optó por canjearlos por dinero.
Tenemos así que nuestros legisladores redondean los 50.000 pesos mensuales, amén de otras numerosas ventajas y privilegios económicos.
Pero lo que se cuestiona no es el monto de las dietas, sino la oportunidad y la forma del aumento.
La oportunidad ya habíamos hablado en uno de los párrafos anteriores y en cuanto a la forma obviamente no se ajusta a las enseñanzas del fundador del partido gobernante. Recordemos que, para algunos “el Primer Trabajador” y para otros el “El gran Corruptor”, sentenció que todo se debe realizar “despacio y armoniosamente”.
Los titulares de ambas Cámaras, Julián Domínguez y Amado Boudou, justificaron esta torpe grosería, porque que las dietas estaban muy atrasadas con respecto a otros cargos de áreas del Gobierno de menor nivel.
Si estaban atrasadas me pregunto de quien es la responsabilidad de este desfasaje, considerando que el kirchnerismo ya está casi 10 años en el poder.
No caben dudas que los legisladores deben recibir esas sumas. Pero también los docentes, las Fuerzas de Policiales que semanalmente ofrenda la vida de uno de sus integrantes por una mayor seguridad de los ciudadanos, los gremios, las FF.AA., los jubilados y tantos otros sectores del quehacer nacional que le caben las mismas consideraciones que mencionaron los titulares de ambas Cámaras: “de que está atrasados en sus actualizaciones”
Simplemente a modo de dato comparativo, en Estados Unidos un diputado gana tres veces más que un docente: en la Argentina kirchnerista, 12 veces más.
En definitiva este aumento se inscribe en una nueva torpeza más del oficialismo, esta vez acompañado por gran parte de la oposición, con unas pocas honrosas excepciones. Decisión grosera, inoportuna, irritativa y desmesurada. Va 180º a contramano de la situación del país.
Sin dudas, aumentará el cada vez más grande malestar de la ciudadanía.
Lamentable y peligroso. Fue echar combustible a un fuego que se aviva día a día. Peligroso para el gobierno, para los dirigentes y para nuestra tan vapuleada República.

Trabajadores del puerto boicotearon a los barcos ingleses

La disputa política entre la Argentina y Gran Bretaña por la soberanía de las islas Malvinas incorporó varios nuevos ingredientes, al concretarse un boicot de trabajadores marítimos contra los buques de bandera inglesa. Los afiliados al Sindicato de Obreros Marítimos Unidos (SOMU) demorarán por 12 horas a los cargueros del Reino Unido, al adherir al boicot convocado por la Confederación Argentina de Trabajadores del Transporte (CATT).

Así lo informó el secretario general de SOMU, Enrique Suárez, quien explicó que la medida consistirá en demorar seis horas el ingreso y otras seis la salida de los transportes, aunque tengan bandera de Malta, Islas Caimán, Isla de Mann, Bermudas o Panamá.

«Es un boicot, no una huelga. Vamos a trabajar, pero vamos a seleccionarles la carga para demorarlos. Lo que les hacemos es letal, porque pierden la línea en otros puertos y demoran varios en regresar», indicó. «Que se quejen a su gobierno, así se sienta a hablar» de la soberanía, agregó Suárez.

En tanto, unos 300 isleños a bordo de 130 vehículos realizaron una caravana por Puerto Argentino para protestar contra el tratamiento que la situación de las Malvinas tiene en la prensa mundial.

Convocada por Norman Clarke, un fotógrafo residente en Malvinas, la columna, donde se mostraron banderas inglesas y del gobierno de las islas, el grupo de kelpers expresó su «insatisfacción» con información difundida que, aseguraron, está «inspirada en la propaganda mentirosa y en algunos casos insultante de la Argentina».

«La gente no está feliz con un montón de cosas que se están diciendo», afirmó Clarke, quien también aseguró: «no se sienten felices con la cantidad de argentinos en la ciudad en estos días, así como con gente como Sean Penn, que no sabe nada de las Falklands (Malvinas) y está diciendo las cosas que dice».

Por otra parte, el primer ministro británico David Cameron envió al ministro británico de Universidades y Ciencia, David Willetts, para reunirse desde ayer con el gobernador y con militares de la base Mount Pleasant, donde está el príncipe Guillermo. El funcionario pasaría la noche en la base militar y hoy se dirigirá a la Antártida. (NA-DyN)

Del Potro busca las semifinales en Rotterdam ante Troicki

El tenista argentino juega ante el serbio con el objetivo de seguir avanzando en el torneo holandés. El tandilense se instaló en cuartos de final tras vencer sucesivamente al francés Michael Llodrá y el eslovaco Karol Beck.
Juan Martín Del Potro, el número uno del tenis argentino, se medirá hoy con el serbio Victor Troicki en uno de los cruces de los cuartos de final del ATP de Rotterdam, en Holanda.

Del Potro, décimo en el ranking mundial de la ATP, jugará alrededor de las 10.30 -hora de la Argentina- frente al serbio Troicki (24), a quien venció en los cuatro enfrentamientos previos: final de Washington 2008, más Auckland, Roma y Roland Garros, los tres en 2009.

El tenista nacido en Tandil se instaló en cuartos de final tras vencer sucesivamente al francés Michael Llodrá (47) y el eslovaco Karol Beck (105), y si le gana al serbio jugará mañana una de las semifinales ante el vencedor del cruce entre el checo Tomas Berdych (7) y el italiano Andreas Seppi (45).

Los cuarto de final del certamen holandés se completarán con dos partidos: Roger Federer (Suiza, 3) ante Jarkko Nieminen (Finlandia, 46) y Richard Gasquet (Francia, 16) frente a Nikolay Davydenko (Rusia, 49).

Respecto de Del Potro, también participa del cuadro paralelo de dobles en dupla con el alemán Petzschner y juntos vencieron el martes último en la ronda inicial al checo Frantisek Cermak y el eslovaco Filip Polasek, por 7-5 y 6-3.

Los próximos rivales del argentino y el alemán serán hoy el sueco Robert Lindstedt y el rumano Horia Tecau.

El certamen holandés, que reparte 1.207.500 euros en premios, se juega sobre superficie rápida y tiene como máximo favorito al suizo Federer.

El actual campeón de Rotterdam es el sueco Robin Soderling (21), quien conquistó las ediciones 2010 y 2011, pero no juega al tenis desde julio pasado, a raíz de una mononucleosis.

El único argentino que se coronó campeón en Rotterdam fue Guillermo Vilas en 1982.

«A Marita la violaron, la apuñalaron y la obligaron a tener un hijo»

Lo dijo su madre, en el juicio contra trece acusados. Aseguró que uno de ellos, el «Chenga» Gómez, forzó a la chica y la mantuvo cautiva en un prostíbulo. Insistió en la complicidad de funcionarios.
Susana Trimarco, madre de María de los Angeles -“Marita”- Verón, acusó ayer a José “Chenga” Gómez, principal imputado en la causa por el secuestro y reducción a la prostitución de la joven, de “violar” a su hija y obligarla a tener un hijo con él durante el cautiverio en un prostíbulo, además de asegurar que “le daban cocaína para que trabajara más”. “Por Dios, le pegaron y la prostituyeron”, expresó Trimarco.
En el segundo día consecutivo de su declaración en el marco del juicio oral contra trece imputados por la desaparición de su hija (que se reanudará el miércoles cuando siga con su testimonio), Susana aseguró que a “Marita” “la violaron, la apuñalaron y la obligaron a tener un hijo”. Y acusó directamente a Gómez de forzar a su hija a ser su “mujer” en un prostíbulo a su cargo y obligarla a tener un hijo con él para asegurar su cautiverio, durante el debate que se lleva a cabo en la Sala II de la Cámara Penal de Tucumán. Por eso, según Trimarco, en la jerga del ambiente a “Marita” la llamaban “la doña”.
En otro tramo de su declaración -que duró cinco horas- contó la historia de Andrea, una mujer que también fue raptada y llevada a los prostíbulos de La Rioja, donde vio a “Marita” con un bebé en brazos y se prometieron mutuamente que la primera que lograra escapar iba a avisar a la madre de la otra en dónde estaba.
Trimarco volvió a involucrar a Ernesto Baaclini, secretario de la fiscalía de Tucumán encargado de investigar el caso; al juez Moreno de La Rioja y al exgobernador de esa provincia Angel Mazza, como cómplices que encubrieron la mafia de la trata de personas que operaba en esa provincia.
Al referirse a las víctimas que conoció mientras buscaba a su hija, Susana aclaró que recordaron “detalles físicos específicos, como un lunar que tenía Marita, y eso demuestra que realmente estuvieron con ella”. Agregó que a la joven y a otras mujeres “les daban cocaína para que trabajaran más”, y que una de las chicas, Blanca Vides, le contó que “por día pasaban cuarenta hombres por su cuerpo”.
Trimarco volvió a apuntar ayer contra Lidia Irma Medina y sus hijos José “Chenga” y Gonzalo Gómez, con quienes volvió a tener fuertes cruces, a tal punto que los jueces pidieron al primero que abandonara la sala luego del cuarto intermedio.
“Chenga” negó las acusaciones y se defendió ante la prensa diciendo que “Trimarco toca todo de oído y sólo cuenta lo que le dijeron otras mujeres”, por lo que adelantó que sus abogados solicitarán careos con esas testigos.

Si falta nafta o gasoil, se sancionará a las petroleras

La jugada es parte de la presión que está ejerciendo el Ejecutivo para lograr que YPF incremente sus inversiones. Si Repsol se mantiene en su postura y, tal como dejó trascender, se empiezan a comprobar faltantes de combustibles en el mercado interno, la Secretaría de Energía le va a dar intervención a Guillermo Moreno para que sancione a la petrolera por violar la Ley de Abastecimiento. Lo mismo se aplicará para el resto.

La disputa entre el Gobierno y la petrolera YPF sumó ayer un nuevo capítulo. El ministro de Planificación Federal, Julio De Vido, atribuyó las versiones sobre posibles faltantes de gasoil durante el próximo fin de semana largo a “una nueva operación mediática” que “esta vez parecería estar impulsada por la empresa YPF usando a los estacioneros como voceros”. La reacción fue a raíz de una nota publicada ayer en el diario La Nación donde se reproducen declaraciones de Raúl Castellano, presidente de la Federación de Expendedores de Combustibles y Afines del Centro.

“En YPF me dijeron que ya están vendiendo lo último que les queda porque el Gobierno no les autorizó la compra de divisas. Calculan que en tres o cuatro días no va a haber más Eurodiesel en todo el país”, afirmó. “Que una empresa que el año pasado remitió utilidades por 1200 millones de dólares diga que no tiene divisas para importar combustibles suena por lo menos irrisorio”, sostuvo De Vido, quien reveló que YPF ya le había planteado la situación. Si en los próximos días se registran faltantes, la Secretaría de Comercio Interior sancionará a la petrolera por violar la Ley de Abastecimiento, informa hoy el diario Página/12

El martes pasado, el apoderado de la petrolera controlada por Repsol, Mauro Dacomo, le envió una carta privada a Cameron donde le comunicó que “YPF está teniendo inconvenientes para el normal acceso al mercado de cambios”. Allí hace referencia a dos notas que la corporación envió a distintas dependencias del Gobierno el 19 de enero y el 10 de febrero de este año advirtiendo sobre esta situación y menciona además “otras trabas y/o demoras que esta compañía ha estado sufriendo al momento de tramitar el ingreso de distintos bienes importados”. A raíz de ello, Dacomo aseguró que está en riesgo la importación de gasoil y la implementación de proyectos de inversión. Por lo tanto, le pidió a Cameron “efectuar las gestiones necesarias ante las distintas autoridades de modo de permitir a nuestra compañía su normal operatoria de comercio internacional”.

Cameron le contestó el miércoles, también por carta privada, que la empresa tiene la obligación de abastecer su porción de mercado y que si para hacerlo debe importar combustibles es “porque su producción de petróleo ha descendido por causas que serían imputables a YPF y que esta secretaría se encuentra analizando”. Luego le recriminó “haber postergado inversiones necesarias para ampliar y modernizar sus instalaciones de refinación” y recordó que, pese a ello, el Estado colaboró con la empresa “a fin de facilitarle el cumplimiento de sus obligaciones de suministro e inversión”. Entre las concesiones que se le otorgó a la firma, el secretario de Energía menciona el artículo 26 de la Ley 26.728 que les permite a los importadores vender en el mercado interno sin tributar el impuesto sobre los combustibles líquidos y el gas natural establecido en la Ley 23.966, lo cual le posibilitó a YPF mantener sus precios en línea con los del resto del mercado nacional.

Si Repsol-YPF se mantiene en su postura y, tal como dejó trascender, se empiezan a comprobar faltantes de combustibles en el mercado interno, la Secretaría de Energía le va a dar intervención a Comercio Interior para que sancione a la petrolera por violar la Ley de Abastecimiento. Es la misma herramienta que el Gobierno utilizó en los últimos años para tratar de disciplinar a la petrolera Shell. Entre 2006 y 2009, el secretario de Comercio Interior, Guillermo Moreno, abrió 117 expedientes contra la firma angloholandesa y en la mayoría de los casos le aplicó multas por un millón de pesos argumentando que no había cumplido con el abastecimiento de gasoil. La compañía informó el 8 de marzo de 2010 que hasta entonces 45 de esos 117 expedientes habían llegado a la Justicia, la cual se había expedido en 31 casos, condenándola sólo en ocho.

Merkel buscará con la oposición candidato de consenso para la presidencia alemana

La canciller de Alemania Angela Merkel dijo que trabajará con los partidos de oposición para buscar un candidato de consenso que reemplace a Christian Wulff, quien acaba de renunciar a su puesto de presidente por un caso de corrupción.
Merkel dijo que había recibido con «gran pesar» la dimisión de Wulff, involucrado en un escándalo de corrupción y tráfico de influencias.

Wulff dimitió este viernes ante las presiones de partidos, medios de comunicación y la ciudadanía.

El director técnico del Xeneize hablará este mediodía en conferencia de prensa después del altercado que protagonizó con los referentes del plantel. El último campeón se prepara para jugar con Unión de Santa Fe, este domingo por la tarde.

El entrenador xeneize brindará este mediodía una conferencia de prensa en Casa Amarilla, luego del culebrón que vivió el plantel en Venezuela. Ayer les pidió disculpas a Cvitanich y Riquelme por el “malentendido” que se produjo en la Copa.

De los protagonistas del “malentendido” al que hizo referencia el presidente Daniel Angelici, sólo Juan Román Riquelme enfrentó los micrófonos en la llegada del plantel de Boca a Ezeiza, luego del viaje a Venezuela y la discusión que se produjo en el vestuario por cuestiones tácticas. Este mediodía será el turno de Julio Falcioni, en conferencia de prensa.

El entrenador del elenco xeneize no quiso hablar tras el inconveniente que se produjo en la Copa, cuando Darío Cvitanich tomó una posición diferente en el campo a la que él le había solicitado y por eso le echó la culpa a Juan Román Riquelme. Luego, Walter Erviti reconoció que había sido el responsable y el ex técnico de Banfield le pidió disculpas al plantel.

El Emperador sólo escribió unas líneas en la red social Twitter. “Agradezco todos los mensajes de buena onda, afecto y respeto. Seguimos trabajando, junto a todos los jugadores, por y para Boca”, manifestó. Sin embargo, este mediodía se presentará ante la prensa para entregar su versión y tratar de ponerle un punto a este culebrón inesperado.

La oposición exige que Nilda Garré explique los alcances del «Proyecto X»

La pregunta surge a partir de la afirmación del comandante general de la gendarmería, Héctor Bernabé Schenone. El comandate afirmó que en la Justicia existe una base de datos sobre dirigentes gremiales, sociales, estudiantiles, políticos y referentes de derechos humanos.
La polémica por el «Proyecto X» de Gendarmería seguiría creciendo y dirigentes de la oposición exigieron que la ministra de Seguridad, Nilda Garré, se presente en el Congreso a dar explicaciones de la supuesta unidad especial que espiaba a líderes sociales.

En Clarín y La Nación de hoy se publican llamativos artículos en torno a la afirmación reciente que hizo Héctor Bernabé Schenone. El propio jefe de la Gendarmería Nacional, informó de la existencia de un banco de datos «Proyecto X», en una causa a cargo del juez federal Norberto Oyarbide.

Se trataría de un registro realizado por los propios gendarmes, según afirmó Schenone, siempre con conocimiento de la Justicia, sobre personas aparentemente investigadas por delitos. Los informes de datos poseen un alto nivel de detalle de cada individuo, información como teléfono, otros medios de comunicación, transporte y recursos financieros, es recabada minuciosamente por el organismo.

Según informaron los diputados de la oposición, el “Proyecto X” (tal como se lo conoce a la base de datos) es de dudosa legalidad y el Gobierno debe explicar cómo funciona y por qué fue creado.

En el Senado la solicitud de interpelación a la ministra la promovió el bloque radical; en Diputados, lleva las firmas de Patricia Bullrich (Unión Por Todos); Federico Pinedo y Gabriela Michetti (Pro); Eduardo Amadeo (Frente Peronista); Ricardo Buryaile (UCR); Gerardo Milman (GEN), y Ramona Pucheta (MIJD).

Buenos Aires province Governor Daniel Scioli admitted that his relationship with Vice-governor Gabriel Mariotto “seems tense” but stressed the fact that they get along much better than they seem to do.
“We get along better than what is publically perceived,” he assured and hoped that they will be complement each other more in the future.
Governor Scioli said that “the relationship may seem tense and very difficult at times, we speak over things and I have no reason to doubt that in time we will complement each other.”
“I don’t believe in love at first sight; I sometimes prefer to let things take their own course and be able to talk personally when difficulties arise,” he added.
The former vice-president recalled that the beginning of his relationship with late president Néstor Kirchner “was difficult, but in time it strengthened, and we mutual trust and deep respect for each other, and we talk about that with Gabriel (Mariotto) quite a lot.”
Scioli also called for the participation of young people in politics and stated that all sectors of the Government must stimulate success. “It is very important that young people get involved in politics and engage with the future’s agenda. We must handle them responsibilities, they must assume them we must all respect each other to finde the path to a more prosperous Argentina,” he concluded.

Uruguay captain and PSG’s full-back Diego Lugano came on stage to claim that the racism controversy between Frenchman Patrice Evra and Luis Suárez has been nothing more than a «football argument», and praised his countryman for staying true to his principles.
Suárez was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender Evra earlier in the season, and was widely criticised again last weekend for refusing to shake the France defender’s hand in their first meeting since the incident.

“Luis has gone through a few months he did not deserve”, Lugano said on his official website.
Likewise, the former Sao Paulo’s defender remarked that “Everyone in football knows it is a big circus. Take into account that England is historically a colonial country and racism is a sensitive subject, but we all know it has nothing to do with what happened between Luis and Evra.”

Residents of evacuated building left in fear after near collapse

Residents, neighbours and businessmen surrounding the building that was yesterday evacuated due to risk of it collapsing, expressed their uncertainties and fears over the incident due to the building collapse that occurred three months ago just 30 metres away.
The building located on the intersection of Bartolomé Mitre and Libertad streets, in downtown Buenos Aires, was evacuated on Wednesday evening after fears that it may collapse.
“We are living in fear because we’ve already been through an experience, when the building collapsed along Mitre 1232 on November 4, and killed a person. Also the building along Libertad street at 70 and now the building along our block,” along Mitre street at 1192, said Juan, a local kiosk owner.
Yesterday some 50 people were evacuated. Officials were still investigating the cause of the incident and whether or not it was safe for residents to move back into the building.

Caló’s bid to replace Moyano as CGT head gains strength

Antonio Caló has reportedly formally accepted to run as candidate to replace CGT boss Hugo Moyano, as his bid is backed by most unions that have drifted from the current umbrella union administration, per ambito.com
A meeting is expected to take place in the first two weeks of March, to officially launch Caló’s bid and to evaluate the possibility of bringing forward the election date, according to a union source. Although Caló has publically shown interest of replacing powerful Hugo Moyano, he downplayed rumours by stating that “actually all union leaders want to be in the CGT” and refused to confirm his bid by adding that “we will have to wait until June, when the secretary-general elections take place.”
The possibility of the metal workers union leader succeeding Moyano in the umbrella union has the Government’s blessing. In fact, there have already been talks between Government officials and some unions to show their support. In this fine tuning phase, an euphemism to replace ninety’s term “adjustment,” to have Caló leading the CGT is guarantee of dialogue and not of “extortions,” as a Government House insider explained.
The metal workers union head is a staunch defender of the so called model, particularly of the protection of national industry that the Kirchners have implemented since 2003, which gave positive results that were reflected in his sector. It is not a coincidence that Argentine Association of Industrial metalworkers leader Juan Carlos Lascurain,, is also involved in the negotiations.

New Jersey assembly OKs gay marriage; veto awaits

The New Jersey Assembly passed legislation legalizing same-sex marriage on Thursday, sending the bill to Republican Governor Chris Christie, a possible vice-presidential candidate who has promised to veto the measure.
The Assembly vote of 41 to 33 followed Senate approval on Monday and increased the scrutiny on Christie, a supporter of Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney who has attempted to deflect controversy by saying the matter should be settled by voters in a referendum.
Both chambers lack the two-thirds majority needed to override a veto by Christie blocking gay marriage, a hot-button social issue that is gaining traction in the 2012 US presidential election campaign.
In Maryland, the House of Delegates delayed until Thursday evening its debate on the contentious «Civil Marriage Protection Act» sponsored by Governor Martin O’Malley, who is seen as a rising star in the Democratic Party.
The bill was passed by two House committees on Tuesday, but it remains unclear if O’Malley and his allies have pulled together the 71 votes needed to clear the full House. Comparable legislation failed to pass a year ago when a number of African-American Democrats joined Republicans in opposing the bill.
O’Malley, a gay marriage supporter, has attempted to sway the black lawmakers, many of whom are hesitant to back an issue opposed by much of Maryland’s black clergy.
The action in the Maryland and New Jersey statehouses follows passage of a same-sex marriage bill in Washington state, where Governor Christine Gregoire signed it into law on Monday, but it will not take effect until at least June.
Opponents are working to gather signatures for a ballot initiative in November that would block the law. One group of repeal advocates is also seeking a referendum in early March to put the issue directly to the state’s voters.
A federal appeals court in California earlier this month overturned that state’s gay marriage ban, enacted through a 2008 ballot initiative. That sets up a possible showdown in the US Supreme Court over the matter.
So far, six states are able to perform same-sex weddings: New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Iowa. Washington is poised to become the seventh, although the law could be blocked by a ballot initiative.
New Jersey’s Democratic leadership, which controls both houses of the legislature, has made gay marriage a top priority this session, saying the state’s civil union law does not adequately protect same-sex couples.
The initiative now shifts to Christie, who has 45 days to veto the bill but has vowed to do so immediately.
Democrats do not currently appear to have enough votes to override the veto with a two-thirds majority, though they have until the end of 2013 to try.

Bebeto, the fleet-footed former striker who helped Brazil win the 1994 World Cup, was appointed on Thursday to the local committee in charge of organising the 2014 tournament in the South American country.
The appointment makes Bebeto the second big name in Brazilian soccer to join the so-called Local Organizing Committee, alongside former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid striker Ronaldo, who led Brazil to their fifth World Cup title in 2002.
«It was a pleasure, on my birthday, to get this invitation,» Bebeto told reporters on his 48th birthday in Rio de Janeiro. «It was like getting my first call up for the World Cup, for the Brazil team.
«I never had the joy of playing in a World Cup in my own country but now I will, as a fan, as a representative … so we have to do everything possible in order to have a great World Cup, one of the greatest World Cups in history.»
Bebeto, now a state legislator in Rio, joins the organising committee as Brazil is struggling to get ready to host the world’s premier soccer tournament.
Work on stadiums got off to a slow start, many projects are over budget, and airport infrastructure remains woefully insufficient to accommodate the 600,000 visitors expected for the soccer extravaganza.
While Bebeto celebrated his appointment, Ricardo Teixeira, head of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and the local World Cup organising committee, continued to face an onslaught of corruption allegations. Teixeira, who has headed the CBF for 22 years, has denied any wrongdoing.
Bebeto, who formed a deadly duo with Romario when Brazil won the 1994 World Cup in the United States, is perhaps best remembered for his «rocking the baby» goal celebration against the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
However, his new position might put him at odds with his old striking partner. Romario, who is now a federal congressman, has been one of the most outspoken critics of Teixeira and his handling of preparations for the tournament.
Pressure has mounted on Teixeira in recent days after Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported that a company linked to him overcharged the organisers of a November 2008 friendly match between Brazil and Portugal. Another Brazilian newspaper, O Globo, said the latest accusations could force Teixeira to resign soon.
Bebeto said the 64-year-old soccer boss seemed «happy and content» on Thursday as he chatted about past World Cups with him and Ronaldo.
Asked whether Teixeira might finally step aside, Bebeto said: «I hope he continues, and continues to work (because) that is without doubt very important for Brazil.»
Ronaldo, who ended his playing career last year, also defended Teixeira.

Sergio Agüero came off the bench to score a late tap-in that handed Manchester City a 2-1 win over holders Porto and put them in the driving seat to reach the Europa League last 16 on Thursday.
City went ahead thanks to a second-half own goal by Uruguay international Alvaro Pereira before Agüero’s effort handed them a comfortable cushion ahead of next week’s second leg in Manchester.

Malvinas oil rig exploring in Argentine seas

The Malvinas issue has taken another turn, which could heighten diplomatic tension regarding sovereignty between Argentina and Britain after one of the drilling platforms hired by a Malvinas company was found exploring in Argentine waters on Thursday.
The Leiv Eiriksson platform bears the Bahamas flag and was contracted by Borders & Southern Plc and Falkland Oil and Gas Ltd and can be added to the same list as the Ocean Guardian, the oil rig hired by Rockhopper Exploration Plc which has been exploring to the north of the islands since 2010.
The Leiv Eiriksson, which is 120 metres long and 86 metres high, moves with the support of two ships: the Toisa Intrepid and the multipurpose Toisa Sonat.
At the end of last month, the Leiv Eiriksson was located very close to 200 miles from the Argentine continental shelf, which caused alarm among local authorities.
However, in recent days both the Leiv Eiriksson and its accompanying vessels have violated the borders of what Argentina denominates the nation’s Economic Exclusion Zone.
Its mission, according to the oil company, is to drill two deep wells to the south and southeast of the archipelago, at the edge of Argentina’s national territory.
According to what Ambito.com could learn, the platform advanced between 8-10 nautical miles beyond the pre-determined limits, to 190 miles off the Argentine coast.
The oil rig and companion ships spent over 90 hours in that location exploring or carrying out exploratory tasks, which led to speculation that the company is considering a third well, located within Argentine territorial waters. Irrefutable satellite images show that on Wednesday the platform was located at the coordinates -53°59’54’7 south -58°76’51’1 west. However, by midday yesterday it had retreated and briefly sailed toward the Islands before dropping anchor at 53°35’44’63 south and 58°45’55’13 west.According to sources with access to the Mompesat satellite monitoring system, the positioning of the platform was brought to the attention of the authorities.
«In recent months we detected that they were on the point of violating our economic exclusion zone and for this reason we have been constantly monitoring,» said the source.
Meanwhile, sources linked to the Foreign Ministry confirmed that this is not the first time that an oil rig violates the zone limits, although it is the first time that this has happened since the diplomatic conflict bubbled to the surface in January. According to those sources, the Ocean Guardian, exploring to the north of the archipelago since 2010 is also positioned within Argentina’s continental shelf.
The same sources also stressed that Argentina has often protested to the United Kingdom and that organizations like the UNASUR, CELAC and the UN Convention on Rights to the Sea (CONVEMAR) have often been notified of these infractions.
«This exploration is illegal. The coastal state which should be providing exploration licences for this area is Argentina and not the United Kingdom,» revealed a source. Argentina also sent notes of discouragement to the companies involved — both the oil companies as well as the accompanying ships and support vessels.
The real conflict between Great Britain and Argentina is that they do not agree on the limitations of the continental shelf. For the Argentine state, according to the presentation by COPLA (National Committee for the Limit of the Continental Shelf) to the United Nations, «the continental shelf of a bordering state includes the sea bed and sub-marine layers which extend beyond its territorial sea and across the length of the natural extension of its territory to the outer border of the continental margin, or to a distance of 200 miles counted from the base lines from which the borders of the territorial sea are measured, when the outer border of the continental margin does not reach the same distance.»
However, this position conflicts with the United Kingdom, who, taking the «bordering state» to be the Malvinas Islands, consider a large part of the waters around the islands to be their exclusion zone

Teachers’ wage talks in BA province go on recess

Buenos Aires province government and unions of the Teachers Union Front agreed to go on a recess in the collective bargaining talks that will define the wage hike for the sector until it is defined nationwide.
“We’ve agreed to create technical committees to analyze the quantitative and labour aspects of the salaries,” the provincial Labour Minister, Oscar Cuartango, said.
After the encounter held in La Plata, Cuartango admitted that “we share the workers’ worries” and assured that, if necessary, “we’ll work on holidays.”
The General Director of Culture and Education, Silvina Gvirtz, and the head of the Economy Ministry, Silvina Batakis, were also part of the meeting.
The unions are requesting a hike from 2,400 to 3,100 of the minimum wage, to eliminate the ceiling of the Family Subsidies, and improve the school’s infrastructure.
On the other hand, the meeting between the City Education Minister and the 17 teachers union will be held at the Ministry located at Paseo Colón 255.

Britain set for Malvinas Islands oil windfall

Britain will share in a Malvinas Islands windfall when oil starts flowing there later this decade and, with taxes and royalties estimated at up to $167 billion, the potential prize could inflame mounting tensions with Argentina over sovereignty.
Sea Lion, a field discovered in 2010 north of the islands by British explorer Rockhopper, will generate $10.5 billion of tax and royalty revenues for the Malvinas over its estimated 20-year life, Edison Investment Research said on Thursday.
That windfall could swell to $167 billion over the years, Edison analysts said, if four wells being drilled this year off the southern coast and targeting 8 billion barrels of oil resources come in as hoped — the chances of success at these wells are 10-25 percent, analysts have said.
When oil starts flowing, and in whatever quantity, the Malvinas Islands will contribute to the cost of its defence, which is currently paid for entirely by Britain, local assembly member Gavin Short said.
«We have always said once we have found out what we have got and it started flowing, then it would be our intention to make contributions (to Britain),» Short said on Thursday.
Under licences signed by the oil companies, all proceeds from the oil will flow to the Malvinas Islands Government, Short and Britain’s Foreign Office both reported
Edison’s estimates came with the islands back in focus two months ahead of the 30th anniversary of a 1982 war that resulted from Argentina’s invasion of the islands. The conflict claimed 900 lives.
Britain has since refused to start talks over sovereignty unless the overwhelmingly pro-British islanders want them.
Earlier this month, Argentina asked the United Nations for help to stop what it said was Britain’s militarisation of the South Atlantic — a warship has been sent there and politicians are due to visit, although no date has been set.
Also, Prince William, second in line to the British throne and a helicopter pilot in the Royal Air Force, arrived in the islands for a posting earlier this month.
Any extra income of the size suggested by Edison would revolutionise the lives of the 3,000 inhabitants of the group of islands, whose government received 42.4 million pounds ($66 million) total revenue in 2009/10, primarily from fishing.
Contribution to the costs of defending the islands would be welcomed by Britain, which wants to cut defence spending 8 percent over the next four years as it struggles to cut debt.
Rockhopper has been seeking a partner to invest in the $2 billion Sea Lion project to get oil flowing by 2016.
Borders & Southern and Falkand Oil & Gas are both set to drill wells to the south of the islands later this year.
The estimate of $167 billion compares with total tax revenue in Argentina of around $125 billion last year.
«Tensions are already high enough based purely on the symbolic nature of the dispute. When you add in the economic factor, that just will just raise tensions even more,» said Mark Jones, Latin American specialist, and chair of the department of political science at Rice University in the United States.
«The potential of loss of revenue form the Malvinas is particularly poignant given that Argentina just over the past year and a half has gone from the status of net hydrocarbon exporter to net hydrocarbon importer so they are even more sensitive to this issue than they might have been.»
Islanders themselves are containing their excitement until oil starts to flow, aware that exploration is a high risk business, Short said.
«People down here dream a little about the things you could do. But no one is really getting excited. We are sort of being very pragmatic about it and just taking it a step at a time and keeping our feet on the ground,» Short said.
«These are just numbers and speculation of what might be down there. Oil is finite. So we are going to have to set up sovereign wealth funds to look after people long after we and the oil are gone.»

Catamarca mining conflict: Officials order protests be lifted

Conflicts between mining companies and environmentalists spurred further protesting in Catamarca province this week. Central roads were being blocked off, cutting off access to Andalgalá town and La Alumbrera quarry.
Officials at the head of the current tensions affecting the mining industry in Catamarca province, ordered that both pro-mining and anti-mining protest groups lift the roadblocks that were cutting off access to the town of Andalgalá.
Public prosecutors Martha Nieva and Roberto Mazzucco issued a warning to protestors giving them the period of two hours to evacuate the area in order for transport to access the town.
The demands made by officials mark the second evacuation order issued since yesterday and the pair threatened to send police down to clear the area if the demonstrators did not cooperate.
Last night and throughout Wednesday rallies were taking place across Andalgalá, with one in particular that involved some 2000 environmentalists, marching in protest against mining activity at the Alumbrera mine.
Roads across the town were being blocked off affecting lorry access to the mine, but also general traffic through-flow in Andalgalá, a town with a population of approximately 18,000 residents.
The protesters were also marching in remembrance of the clashes between activists and police in the region of El Algarrobo two years ago which provoked many arrests, left many injured and affected local business.
Nieva reiterated that what is to happen after the given time for the protesters to clear the route ways, should they not lift their protests, they were “yet to make a decision over how they wished to continue” in order to solve the issue, police sources said.
The current protests take place just one week after police clashed with protesters in Tinogasta, which resulted in many injuries and arrests.
On Tuesday, Kirchnerite Governor of Catamarca Lucía Corpacci blasted the conflicts and protests made saying that Andalgalá residents needed to be resolve the issues themselves. “This is a problem of Catamarca province and it must be solved by its people,” she stated.
Corpacci also made a point of stating that she was “concerned over the misinformation spread by certain national media outlets,” regarding the alleged use cyanide and the contamination of water in Catamarca.
Yesterday, Jujuy Governor Eduardo Fellner was present at the meeting led by Planning Minister Julio De Vido in which the Mining States Federal Organization (OFEMI) was created in order to coordinate and unify the rules set out for the sector, to be able to general environmental and social sustainability.

YPF to pay debt, file appeal

YPF will pay on Thurdsay and Friday the US$8 million debt claimed by Afip revenue agency, just like newspaper Ambito Financiero printed today. Due to the debt, YPF was banned from carrying out export and import duties on Wednesday.
The sanction will be published in the Official Gazette in the next few days and will also include other exporting companies that have differences with AFIP.
Once the payment is confirmed, the ban on export and importing duties will be lifted. Nevertheless YF will file a complaint before the Fiscal Court in order to solve the underlining conflict regarding the mechanism to calculate gas export rights.
The difference between AFIP and oil companies regarding gas export rights began several years ago. In YPF’s case, the sales have been sanctioned were carried out in 2005 and 2006. The company liquidates the rights according to the price it sells the product, but AFIP calculates the payment according the so called market price, which is defined monthly per the value of imported gas.
In economic terms, an US$ 8 million debt that with added interest could reach US$20 million is not significant. The measure does not have the importance that the order of selling gas oil to transport to the same price as gas stations do, and neither the impact of the elimination of Refino plus fiscal incentive programme for YPF projects in Ensenada and Luján de Cuyo.
However, as the sanction against YPF was the only one that was publically announced, AFIP’s decision takes place as the relationship between the oil company and the Government’s hit a rough patch in January.
The ongoing political onslaught against YPF is related to trouble caused by the deficit in the fuel trade balance, expected to reach 1.7 billion pesos in 2012, which is one of the Government’s main concerns. But although the problem has been detected, how the relationship between President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s administration and the oil company will continue remains unclear.

Ban Ki-moon sees possible crimes against humanity in Syria

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called on Syrian authorities to stop killing civilians and said potential crimes against humanity were taking place in the country.
«We see neighbourhoods shelled indiscriminately, hospitals used as torture centres, children as young as 10 years old killed and abused. We see almost a certain crimes against humanity,» he told reporters after meeting Austrian President Heinz Fischer on Thursday.
Ban said he had read of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s plan to hold a referendum that could lead to multi-party elections within 90 days but said the priority now had to be halting the bloodshed in an uprising against Assad’s rule.
«What is important at this time is that first Syrian authorities must stop killing their own people, must stop violence. This violence should stop from all sides, whether by national security forces or by opposition forces,» he said.
Ban, who opened an international conference on fighting the illicit drugs trade from Afghanistan, said he would meet the foreign ministers of Russia and France in Vienna on Thursday to discuss stalled U.N. Security Council action on Syria.
He called it «regrettable» that the Council could not agree so far on a resolution, and said: «Now that is behind us. We have to look to the future.»
Ban said thousands had died, 25,000 people had fled Syria, an estimated 70,000 had been displaced within the country and the numbers were rising by the day.
«Lack of agreement in the Security Council does not give the government licence to continue its assault on its own people. The longer we debate the more people will die.»

ALDANA MAILÉN ESTÁ EN ESTADO CRÍTICO

La joven de 17 años que fue atacada por su pareja en la localidad bonaerense de Wilde, continúa internada en el Policlínico San Martín de La Plata, en estado desesperante y presenta casi toda la «superficie corporal quemada» (75%).
El último parte médico sobre el estado de Aldana no es alentador. Según informó en la mañana del jueves el director médico del Policlínico San Martín, la joven de 17 años, que fue prendida fuego por su novio en Wilde, continúa en «estado crítico» y con «respirador artificial».

El médico Héctor Canales explicó que Aldana llegó intubada al pabellón de quemados del hospital que dirige, y reiteró que su estado es de «suma gravedad».

Canales indicó que la joven presenta alta superficie corporal quemada y que está alojada en la de cuidados intensivos que tiene el sector.

«Está hemodinámicamente inestable. La paciente recibirá el tratamiento necesario para un cuadro agudo», destacó el director médico.

Aldana llegó a La Plata con heridas en cara, cuello, tórax, abdomen, genitales, miembros inferiores y superiores. «Se trata de quemaduras tipo A, B y AB», que en términos no médicos se podrían traducir como profundas y muy profundas.

La joven fue asistida en el hospital de Wilde y derivada al San Martín, un hospital de mayor complejidad, por la gravedad de las heridas que presentaba.

Según fuentes policiales consultadas, el novio de Aldana, de 23 años, fue detenido poco después de haber sido asistido en la guardia del hospital de Wilde, informó el sitio OnLine-911.com.

Se trata de Juan Gabriel Franco, quien discutió con ella por una supuesta infidelidad. Los investigadores confiaron que, en medio de la pelea, ella se roció con alcohol y desafió a su pareja a que lo prendiera fuego. Según el relato de la víctima, su novio tomó un encendedor y la prendió fuego…

La divisa estadounidense se negocia sin cambios en las principales casas de cambio de la city porteña. Para la compra cotiza a $ 4,32 y para la venta a $ 4,365.

El dólar informal desciende un centavo a $ 4,75 para la punta vendedora.

Por su parte, el euro opera sin variaciones según el promedio de las pizarras de la city. Cotiza a $ 5,61 comprador y $ 5,73 vendedor.

Se viene un partido clave para Gimnasia en el torneo de la B Nacional, un choque que, de quedarse con los tres puntos, terminaría por rectificar su buen momento y su gran levantada desde la llegada de Pedro Troglio a la conducción técnica.

Recibirá el sábado a Rosario Central, uno de los tres punteros que tiene el torneo (los otros dos son Instituto y River) y una victoria representaría descontarle tres puntos a un rival directo.

«Chile ha ratificado el apoyo a la Argentina en la causa Malvinas»

El embajador argentino en Chile, Ginés González García, afirmó que «las relaciones con Chile son excelentes y vienen mejorando todos los días» al tiempo que subrayó que «Chile ha ratificado el apoyo al reclamo argentino por Malvinas y eso es estratégico».

González García sostuvo que «la posición de Chile sobre el tema Malvinas es la misma y no se ha modificado. Hubo una ratificación del apoyo a la Argentina lo que para nosotros es muy importante, estratégico, y es una muestra de solidaridad con Argentina».

En diálogo con radio América el embajador argentino comentó que «en la conversación entre el presidente Piñera y el primer ministro inglés (Cameron) se tocó el tema Malvinas y allí Piñera ratificó la posición de Chile de apoyo a la Argentina».

El diplomático destacó además que «hoy, hay una unidad regional, latinoamericana, que es más amplia porque además gran parte del mundo apoya a la Argentina en esta causa de Malvinas que es lo que pone nervioso al Reino Unido».

«América del Sur y América Latina están actuando como un bloque. En Chile hoy hay un gobierno que es de centroderecha y antes era de centroizquierda pero, la posición de Chile sobre Malvinas no ha variado», dijo.

González García señaló que «el presidente Piñera y su gobierno han tenido una posición franca y explícita para que quedara clara la posición de Chile», y recordó que «venimos de 32 años de estar al borde de un guerra entre nuestros países por lo cual resulta muy importante que ésta sea la posición de Chile, del Gobierno y de los partidos politicos».

Agregó que «existen pocas relaciones tan extraordinarias e intensas como la de Argentina y Chile y es por eso que la Presidenta (Cristina Fernández de Kirchner) siempre visita Chile y hay una agenda impresionante de cosas comunes cuando se encuentran los presidentes”.
