Almagro residents protest against water and power cuts

Thousands of people across the city of Buenos Aires and surrounding areas were affected by the extreme weather conditions in the last week.
A group of residents from the Buenos Aires city neighbourhood of Almagro were blocking off traffic at the intersection of Corrientes Avenue and Billinghurst, demanding that electricity and water services be resumed after days of power outages and lack of running water. Traffic was being held up in the area as a result of the protest.
The residents stated that since December they have been affected by cuts but particularly that they’ve been without power for a total of 20 days.
After two large storms and extreme temperature changes hit the city of Buenos Aires and various provinces across the country in the space of less than a week, many Argentine residents have been left without power across many different areas.
Last night in the Capital and surrounding areas some 54.5 millimetres of rainfall was registered, Buenos Aires Central Observatory sources said.
Tens of municipalities located in the Greater Buenos Aires area also were affected, which caused the evacuation of 50 people, sources from the Social Development Ministry said.
The Provincial Emergencies Council (CPE) and crews from the Critic Assistance directive intervened in some of the the worst-affected areas, such as: Lincoln, Pehuajó, Lobos, Navarro, Ezeiza, San Vicente, La Plata, Brandsen, Castelli y Punta Indio.
Sources informed that Lincoln was one of mostly-affected zones, where the storms and strong winds caused fifty people to be evacuated from their homes last night.
