CGT labour confederation leader Hugo Moyano.
Before over eighty thousand workers, the secretary-general of the CGT union umbrella group Hugo Moyano announced he was stepping down as the leader of the Buenos Aires province branch of the Peronist Party and as vicepresident of the national branch.
With the excuse of the commemoration of teamster’s day at Huracán Stadium, Moyano spoke with a clear messsage to the national government after President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, after taking office on Saturday, said she will not tolerate what she described as trade union “blackmail” in the form of strikes.
Moyano opened his speech saying «We don’t want to occupy anyone’s role but to carry out our responsibility.»
He added the Peronist Party in the province of Buenos Aires is «an empty shell lacking peronism.» «That’s why I have decided to quit the interim presidency of the Buenos Aires province branch of the Peronist Party and my role as vicepresident of the national Peronist Party,» he announced.
Moyano continued to say «I have ratified we will strengthen the Peronism we workers deserve.»
He went on to urged the national government to «give back the 12 billion pesos they have withdrawn from health insurance companies sin 2008.»
«They will have to give a response to our claims,» he added.
