Four children and three adults remain hospitalized “in severe condition,” after the fatal crash which took place Thursday night between a van and a lorry along Route 7, along kilometre 180, between Chacabuco and Carmen de Areco. Five children and three adults died in the accident. Junín’s General Prosecutor reported that the truck driver “was indicted.”
“There are seven patients with red code, which means in a severe condition,” the head of Buenos Aires province Emergency service, Adrián Tarditti, confirmed. Four of these patients are children, while the other three are adults.
Earlier, Junín General Prosecutor Juan Manuel Mastrorilli reported that the “only one who’s indicted” over the accident “is the lorry driver.”
Mastrorilli stated during a press conference that the driver is “Antonio Sánchez, 60-years-old, accused of involuntary aggravated manslaughter due to the number of victims.”
Chacabuco police confirmed that amongst the victims affected, five children were killed and another thirteen were being treated.
After 9 am, police officers declared that the route was partially cleared at kilometre 180 in order for traffic to pass through toward the capital.
This morning, Interior Minister, Florencio Randazzo and Health Minister, Juan Manzur made their way to Chacabuco to oversee the recuperation measures being carried out by emergency service staff at the scene of the accident, officials informed.
According to police sources, the lorry overturned with its load crushing the tourist van, which was transporting children to a football school. The first estimations made by police were that the accident occurred when the Mercedez Benz lorry, carrying building materials, clipped the roadside and then overturned hitting the van head on, which was driving from Buenos Aires to Junín.
Buenos Aires Province Governor Daniel Scioli arrived to the scene of the accident on Thursday night, along with Security Minister Ricardo Casal and Health Minister Alejandro Collia.
