At least nine people, including eight young girls, died when the bus in which they were travelling to Mendoza was struck by a freight train in the town of Zanjitas, San Luis.
The bus driver of the school bus that was hit by a train in the San Luis province killing six girls and two teachers was accused of involuntary manslaughter, but did not testify before judge Mirta Esley, per his lawyer’s request.
Julio Sebastián Jofre, 29 years old, was detained last night. Several witnesses assured that the driver “was wearing headphones and listening to music” at the time of the crash.
The accident caused profound shock in the province and its governor, Alberto Rodríguez Saá, described the crash as “the worst tragedy in the history of San Luis.”
