Gualeguaychú activists repudiate Tabaré Vázquez’s statements, demand to see CFK

Gualeguaychu’s Citizens Environmental Assembly once again took their protests to Route 135 in order to draft up a declaration “against Argentine politicians who urge (former Uruguayan president) not to retire from politics.”

Activist José Pouler confirmed that they were going to hold an assembly in which they planned to pass a motion in order to draft a statement repudiating Argentine politicians who defend Vázquez.

The environmental activists, who are at odds with the former Botnia pulp mill, gathered in the Arroyo Verde area, but assured they would not set up a road block on the route linking Gualeguaychú with the Uruguayan city of Fray Bentos, where the pulp mill is located.

Demonstrators returned to the streets after the controversy created by Vázquez, who acknowledged that during the bilateral conflict, he considered the possibility of going to war and that he had even asked the US for help.

“Our goal is to repudiate the opinion of those Argentine politicians who ask a mentally unstable man such as him to return to politics, when he almost goes to war with us,” Pouler said.
