CGT leader Hugo Moyano received another sign of peaceful coexistence inside the umbrella union until July 2012. The success of the summit organized by Mario “Paco” Manrique between the union leader and Omar Viviani to unify the pro-Moyano sectors success was reflected in the taxi union leader’s comments to the media.
Not only Viviani dismissed any “ambition” of succeeding Moyano as the Central Labour Confederation leader but he fully backs his reelection. “I have no doubt, the next CGT General Secretary should be Moyano again,” he said. “He has fulfilled two consecutive terms in a responsible way and the CGT has reached a balance,” Viviani stated.
Viviani stressed the fact that he has no intention of following Moyano’s footsteps and lead the powerful umbrella union. “I have no ambition of becoming the CGT General Secretary, I’m taking part in no career. To name a colleague at this point is ruining his chances, that is neither my style nor my habit. There are nine months until the elections, it’s a childbirth. To put forward a colleague’s name is ruining him and I won’t do that,” Viviani added.
Likewise, the taxi drivers union head, dismissed the rumours that state that the Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s administration is putting pressure to remove Moyano from power. “I don’t know if the Government is putting pressure to make Moyano leave the CGT. The 50 unions that conform the board of directors’ term ends on July 12th 2012,”Viviani explained.
Rural workers union leader Gerónimo “Momo” Venegas also minimized rumours regarding Moyano’s possibly early departure. “I don’t think that the workers’ movement will lead a coup d’etat within the CGT. If we are in democracy nobody can remove him from power before his term in over,” he warned.
With the Blue and White CGT, Venegas said the agrees to wait until the July 2012 meeting in which the board of directors will name new CGT officials.
