Lower House approves ‘economic emergency’ bill for areas affected by ashes

The Lower House of Congress resumed its sessions after the winter recess and approved the bill that declares the state of economic and social emergency in the area affected by the ashes of the Puyehue volcano.

The lawmakers approved almost unanimously the bill that had been preliminarily approved by the Upper House that declared the “social and economic emergency” for 180 days in several departments of Río Negro and Neuquén provinces affected by the ashes.

The session began with the presence of 134 legislators in the floor and paid homage to former Radical Party lawmaker Florentina Gómez Miranda, who passed away on Monday.

In the last week of June, the Senate had approved unanimously the bill that declared “zone of disaster” and in “economic and social emergency” several departments of these provinces, and also to protect for a year the ovine producers in Chubut province.
