CFK: ‘I feel very proud of what we are showing to the world’

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner visited the Expo Milano 2015 that kicked off on May 1 and will last till October 31 with Argentina among its main participants. The head of state officially inaugurated the stand representing Argentina saying she was «very happy to be here.»

“I feel very proud of what we are here showing to the world, because besides our food we are showing our science and technology. We are presenting what we have achieved in our country,” Ms. Kirchner said.

The Argentine pavilion has had seven thousand daily visitors and over 266 thousand in total, tripling expectations.

The pavilion was named “Argentina feeds you” and is divided in four segments: “Argentina feeds its people”, “Argentina feeds the world”, “Argentina feeds knowledge” and “Argentina feeds debate”.

After the opening, Cristina Fernández headed back to the country. She is expected to arrive in Argentina on Wednesday morning.

On Monday, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) awarded an honour to Argentina for its fight against hunger, which was received by Ms. Kirchner. She later met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Cristina Fernández held a “friendly” meeting with Pope Francis in the Vatican, an encounter that lasted for an hour and eighteen minutes

During her Italy tour, the Argentine leader also met with former president of Brazil Luis Inacio “Lula” Da Silva and received Argentineans who were forced to exile in the European country for political reasons.

President Kirchner was being joined by Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman, Public Communication Secretary Alfredo Scoccimarro, president of the Banco Nación Juan Ignacio Forlón and head of the INCAA movie institute Lucrecia Cardoso.
