Tomada: ‘The strike was an overwhelming failure’

Labor Minister Carlos Tomada has questioned the opposition strike’s success saying just twenty percent of workers participated in the walkout.

“The strike was an overwhelming failure. It was clearly not a general strike, as just twenty percent of workers participated in it. Don’t draw conclusions just from a picture of an empty 9 de Julio Avenue,” Tomada told C5N.

Today, opposition unions staged a 24-hour strike claiming for the removal of the income tax and denouncing poor working conditions. Tomada linked the measure with the upcoming elections and said it had nothing to do with protecting workers rights.

“Barrionuevo has ties with Massa, Moyano with Macri and Venegas with the Argentina Rural Society,” he said, stressing the relationships bewteen the union leaders and the presidential hopefuls for the Renewal Front party and the PRO party.
