Former Economy minister Felisa Miceli has escaped jail, after being sentenced to a three-year suspended sentence due to the discovery of a bag in her office in 2007 with 100,000 pesos and 30,000 US dollars inside.
The First Oral Federal Court reduced an original ruling of four years in prison for the official, who was charged for concealing the origin of the funds found eight years ago. Prosecutor Juan García Elorrio had originally requested a sentence of three-and-a-half years.
Micheli was present for the verdict alongside her legal team, before breaking down as she spoke for the last time before judges Arián Grunberg, Oscar Amirante and Pablo Laufer.
The magistrates also ordered the pesos found in Micheli’s office to be decommissioned, while determining that a storage space in the same building remain «under observation.»
