President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has announced the extension of the Progresar study plan during a televised broadcast from the Government House.
Progresar 2015 will increase from 660 pesos to 900 pesos per student per month, and broaden the range of potential beneficiaries.
“We intend to pass from a focalized plan to one that universalizes the right to study,” CFK said during her speech.
The Head of State praised the government’s social policies and highlighted a report by CELAC that places Argentina in the number one spot as regards social spending in the Latin American region.
Ms Kirchner argued this does not mean tax pressure has become a burden, as Latin America ranks lower than developed nation’s average, and Argentina in particular is not among the first countries in the region.
“We have to create more and more equality, so that we leave no place for material envy,” the President said, adding she hopes voters take this kind of facts into account when casting a ballot during the upcoming presidential elections.
