President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has mocked Buenos Aires City Mayor Mauricio Macri, as she presented the new train cars Argentina purchased from China to renew the Roca railway system.
Ms Kirchner compared the high quality of the cars purchased by the federal government with those bought by the BA City administration.
“These are brand new train cars, equipped with up-to date technology, not like the ones bought for Buenos Aires City citizens…,” the President said.
“They remind me of those trailers shown in American movies. They might have been pretty… fifty years ago,” CFK said when speaking about the train cars bough by Mayor Macri.
On the other hand, the President stressed the new Roca trains have space for 200 people and count with a special feature that forbids each train to crash each other if the locomotive suddenly stops or suffers an accident.
The federal government has bought 200 of these new train cars, at 1.5 million dollars each. They will allow Trenes Argentinos to carry over 140 million passengers with the Roca trains alone, 30 million more passengers than the actual capacity.
The President also announced that by the end of the year the Roca railway will be fully electrified. Tenders have already begun.
Ms Kirchner was accompanied by Economy Minister Axel Kicillof and Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo.
“I want to thank everyone for their efforts. We have accomplished a new dream. Let’s take care of the trains and help deliver a good service,” she said.
