Moyano ups the ante on income tax dispute, vows protest actions

Anti-government CGT splinter leader Hugo Moyano slammed the goverment for refusing to change the income tax and warned about new protests that will be determined on Wednesday. “Prudence has its limits,” he said.

The teamster condemned the remarks by Economy Minister Axel Kicillof describing the income tax as a “solidarity contribution” from higher-earners and Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich “philosophical, ideological” defence of the levy. “They are marxists but with other people’s money,” Moyano said in an interview with Mitre radio.

“Prudence has its limits,” Moyano said. He criticised the government for “disrespecting” the unions’ claims and said that the “necessary measures will be taken.”

“We will anounce new measures on Wednesday,” he stated.

Moyano’s remarks follow the decision by dissident CTA umbrella union led by Pablo Michelli to mobilize between December 10 and 20 if it doesn’t receive a favourable response to its requests for an end-of-the-year bonus and changes in the income tax.
