Gov’t says works progress to guarantee power supply

Cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich commented on the meeting the government held with Edesur and Edenor power companies and said that investments are being made to prevent power outages in the summer.

“We have been able to verify that there is a plan for works to improve the electric service,” the chief of ministers said in his daily press briefing at the government house. He explained that there are over 2,000 works scheduled, with an investment of nearly 4 billion dollars.

Yesterday, during a heat wave with temperatures over 35° Celsius that broke a historical record for the month of October, several neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires City suffered from power outages.

“The government demands that the infrastructure work schedule is met and explained to the public, and that the electrical power supply is guaranteed,” Capitanich stated.

Meanwhile, Edenor said that it will be working normally this summer and that no power blackouts are to be expected if temperatures remain within “reasonable” levels.

The company’s spokesperson Eduardo Mirabelli said that “near 800 works have been carried out in Buenos Aires City and Province” in the past year.
