‘Keeping a foreigner who commits a crime in the country is insane’

Buenos Aires province Security Minister Alejandro Granados has joined the debate over the Criminal Procedural Code bill saying it is “insane” to keep foreigners who commit a crime in the country.

“My job is to arrest those who commit a crime, the rest is in the hands of the justice. If someone commits a crime, please don’t have him back on the streets again,” Granados said in statements to media this morning.

Speaking with reporters of a radio show, he considered “insane that someone from abroad who commits a crime in our country continues in our country” and pointed out “criminal aggression” has increased over the past years. “I don’t know another way rather than prevention to mitigate crime.”

The minister who was appointed last year by Governor Daniel Scioli explained there are still efforts to be made in order to tackle crime in Argentina’s most populated province.

“We had to deploy 2,200 patrol cars in the streets. There is lack of personal,” he said in reference to the Riachuelo and western areas of the province, two “complicated” zones.

“There are 25,000 men working this year. Next year they will be doubled,” Granados said and highlighted that those who have been suspected of corruption within the force have been “separated” since he took office in 2013.
