Capitanich defends restriction on dollars purchase

After three years since the first implementation of the restriction for dollar purchases, cabinet chief Jorge Capitanich defended the policy and aimed at “financial speculators” who seek to “break the political will of governments who defend the people’s interests.”

Asked about the third-year anniversary of the dollar ban, the official said in his daily press briefing at the government house that the Kirchnerite administration has “taken multiple decisions aimed at guaranteeing social inclusion, productive development and distributive equity.”

The chief of ministers referred to the recent re-election of Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff. Capitanich said that “it is no coincidence that after Dilma won in the runoff, yesterday we saw speculative attacks again” carried out by “those who are opposed to progressive policies.”

“Three years ago, president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner suffered the same speculative attacks with capital flight, despite having won (the elections) by almost 55% of the votes,” he said.

“Concrentrated groups, financial speculators are the ones who (carry out) capital flight strategies that seek to break the polical will of governments who defend the people’s interests,” Capitanich added.

The official went on to give details on the “strategic decisions” taken by the Kirchnerite administration in the past years and highlighted the nationalization of YPF energy company, which he said has allowed the country to gain “hydrocarbon sovereignty” in the transition towards energy self-sufficiency
