Argentina has urged Britain to follow its withdrawal from Afghanistan Helmand military base and to leave Malvinas islands. The country’s Secretary for the Malvinas Daniel Filmus called the British government to shut down “its biggest military base in the South Atlantic.”
“There is absolutely no chance of another invasion from the mainland,” Filmus said in an interview with British newspaper The Independent. “We as a nation – the government, the senate, the house of representatives – have repeatedly stated that we do not seek a military solution; all we want is a dialogue to resolve our differences,” he added.
Filmus said that “it is extraordinary that with so many conflicts going on around the world, the British government does not want to hold talks”. He questioned London for holding their garrison in Malvinas, turning the South Atlantic into “one of the most militarised zones in that part of the world.”
The recently appointed Secretary of State for Malvinas affairs was in London for the launch of a book on Malvinas at the Argentine Embassy in the UK.
