Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) leaders met with Domestic Trade Secretary Augusto Costa and asked him to “ease the import of necessary supplies.” The government pledged export promotion measures.
UIA’s secretary Ignacio De Mendiguren described the two-hour meeting as “positive” and said that the government vowed measures in response to UIA’s demands. “Resolution 124 for export promotion will be announced tomorrow,” he said.
“Secretary Costa has proven transparency and we consider that dialogue is the right way to go,” De Mendiguren said before joining his colleagues from UIA at the meeting.
In turn, UIA’s Vicepresident José Urtubey renewed their call for the government to “ease the import of necessary supplies” and expressed his concern over jobs losses. “If the drop in industrial activity continues, one of our challenges will be to maintain jobs,” he said.
De Mendiguren said that a new meeting was scheduled for Thursday with Economy Ministry officials to discuss the new Consumer Protections Law.
