Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich reiterated that any ongoing negotiations between Argentinean private agents and the holdouts “are not the State’s concern or responsibility”.
“I have never had a telephone conversation with [Macro Bank president Jorge] Brito, nor met with him or with any representative of the financial sector,” Capitanich stressed in his daily press briefing at government house.
“The actions of private agents, whether they are companies or national or foreign banks, does not concern the national State,” the official added.
He also referred to the next steps in the country’s dispute against the so-called vulture funds and denied media reports about a new meeting scheduled with US court-appointed mediator Daniel Pollack.
Asked about US judge Griesa’s threat to hold Argentina in contempt for the government’s comments on the debt dispute, Capitanich said “there is no such a thing as contempt for a sovereign country, not without violating the country’s sovereign immunity”.
Capitanich also mentioned Argentina’s legal case against the US in The Hague and urged the Obama Administration to “provide a peaceful solution” for the dispute, saying “it is responsible for the actions of one of its branches”.
