UTA transport workers have decided to cancel the long-distance bus strike announced earlier today, Union leader Roberto Fernández affirmed after a meeting with Cabinet Chief Jorge Capitanich.
“We cancel the strike. The owners did not accept the government official proposal, however we are hoping to achieve a solution for the issue tomorrow”, Fernández stated.
The root of the conflict between drivers and employers lies in salary negotiations, which have still not been resolved after months of talks.
“We are demanding a 28 percent raise plus two bonuses of 1,500 pesos each to be paid in September and November,” UTA Press Secretary Mario Calegari clarified earlier.
Labour Ministry officials, unionist and transport businessmen were present during the reunion headed by Capitanich.
