CFK to present new Sarmiento train cars

Escorted by Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo, President Cristina Fernández de KIrcher will be presenting this afternoon 72 new train cars Argentina purchased from China as part of the government’s plan to renovate and improve the country’s railway system.

The rally has been scheduled to start at 15.30 at the Buenos Aires City port. Randazzo’s office, however, warned the activity could be called off in case of bad weather conditions, considering heavy rains have been hitting the Argentine capital over the past days.

The new cars are expected to become operational within 60 days and will be part of the Sarmiento line service, sadly known for the 2012 Once tragedy. On February 22 that year, a train collided against another one when entering the Once train station in Buenos Aires City, claiming 51 lives and leaving hundreds of injured.
