United Kingdom ambassador Alicia today launched a fierce attack on new Malvinas Islands governor Colin Roberts, claiming that the administrator treated Argentines as inferiors in responding to claims of bullying.
«He treats us as if we were his subjects,» the diplomat fired to Infobae, rejecting Roberts’ complaints that Argentina practiced hostile tactics against residents of the South Atlantic archipelago.
«[Roberts] disrespects Argentina, he shows actions which are lamentable and unworthy of a democratic state and he orders a government to behave itself,» she continued.
«He treats us as if we were subjects of the Empire. Then, also showing disrespect, but this time to the truth. He affirms that there is a lot of resentment between the Islands’ inhabitants because they feel the Argentine government bullies them.»
Castro refuted the notion that aggressive measures were being taken against Malvinas residents, asserting that «the supposed Argentine hostility is a total media fabrication caused by British propaganda.»
«They present us as causing hostility, but the British government invaded our islands in 1833 and expelled Argentine authorities by force. The entire international community, through the UN, recognises that a sovereignty conflict exists and the United Kingdom refuses to talk, despite the fact there are 41 UN resolutions urging both parties to negotiate,» she explained.
