State-controlled energy company YPF announced today the discovery of an oil field in Río Negro province, with the potential to supply up to 15 million barrels of crude.
The oil field, which is 3,154 meters deep and will provide a potential extraction of 6,000 liters per hour, is located in Los Caldenes, 30 kilometers north to Cinco Saltos city, YFP informed in a press release.
“We are excited by this discovery”, YPF executive Carlos Colo said, and added that the field “will increase conventional oil production in the country.”
The discovery marks the first exploration in Los Caldenes since 1999, when an oil field was unearthed in Lake Atamischi.
