The latest meeting between teachers and Buenos Aires province officials has ended without resolution to the pay dispute, as unions rejected the government offer of a 30.9 percent salary increase.
Despite the new proposal, teachers’ unions once more replied in the negative refusal and announced that strikes will continue “indefinitely” as they hold out for a raise of 35 percent. Today marked the fifth day of suspended classes in the district.
“The offer was not enough”, claimed Mirta Petrocini, one of the teacher’s leaders present at the meeting.
“We want to solve it now, and the Government has the tools resolve the conflict”, Roberto Baradel, head of Suteba union said.
“We want a decent salary,” he added.
Governor Daniel Scioli’s administration had offered the increase in two installments: the first one in March, and the second in October.
