Buenos Aires province Cabinet Chief Alberto Pérez held a press conference together with Education Minister Nora De Lucía to inform the provincial government has issued a mandatory conciliation, after teachers unions rejected the latest salary rise offer.
The politician also hinted that if educators refused to adhere to the measure, which would dictate a return to the classroom while negotiations continue, sanctions could be imposed.
“We made an effort and raised the offer to 30.9 percent, but the unions rejected it without discussion”, Pérez told reporters.
“That’s why we issued a mandatory conciliation. Last’s week’s forced mediation corresponded to the national strike. This new scenario demands a new mandatory conciliation”, he explained.
“We ask teachers respectfully but firmly to lift the strike and return to class. Millions of kids need it”, Pérez added.
