Amid opposition criticism of the government’s economic policy involving a recent price agreement to stem inflation, Victory Front MP Héctor Recalde called to “apply rigorously the supply law and close stores” that are failing to meet the accord. “The government was forced to stop a financial run,” Recalde stated.
In statements to a local radio station, the deputy said he was “convinced” that certain sectors are willing to “harm the government.” “Just like when the head of Argentina’s Rural Society says it is more profitable to speculate instead of producing or when the president of a foreign company (Shell) purchases dollars at 8 pesos when he could get them for 7 pesos,” Recalde insisted.
“This was a run. The “blue” dollar name is funny but illegal,” he added and called to apply the supply law and close the stores that are not abiding by the price agreement the Kirchnerite administration has reached with supermarkets and retailers.
“If there is someone playing on us, I won’t hesitate. They will obviously have the right to defend themselves and a due process, but this is not a matter of patriotism but of responsibility. Let’s put on Argentina’s t-shirt and play this world cup,” the also labour lawyer said.
