After announcing the government will carry out “four actions” against the increase of prices and confirming 31 infractions have been registered since the accord with supermarkets and retailers was set by the beginning of 2014, the cabinet chief accused business leaders and traders that still rise prices of “unpatriotic attitude.”
“We have the strategic resources to guarantee a system of development and equitable distribution that certainly worries international economic groups and their domestic allies. There is no doubt and every consumer, every worker knows that, that the position of certain traders and businessmen is shameless due to their unpatriotic attitude,” Jorge Capitanich told reporters while holding his daily press conference at the government house this morning.
The Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the head of ministers explained, will be therefore carrying out what he described as “four actions” when supermarkets and retailers fail to comply with the government-sponsored price accord. Such actions will involve “fines, stores closures, imports and the withdrawal of public policies benefits.”
“When the official exchange rate rises they rise (prices) just in case. When salaries increase, they increase prices just in case. We never find a decision to reduce prices. We understand that (the decision to) intervene the chain of value is to prevent that anybody dominates the chain. Most powerful sectors are those that affect producers and consumers,” Capitanich stated and added President Kirchner has the “firmness” and her government team the “conviction” to guarantee “an economic system that works appropriately” and battle “economic destabilization” maneuvers.
