Ex-president Fernando de la Rúa has denied the existence of alleged bribes to senators that form the basis of his current trial, also launching a fierce attack on prosecutors whom he accused of forming their accusations «based on the newspapers».
Speaking today in court, De la Rúa criticised prosecutor Sabrina Namer and the charges from the Office of Anticorruption.
«It is not just the fact that [the charges] cannot be proved. They do not even exist,» the former head of state asserted.
«I acted with honour and transparency.»
De la Rúa is accused of bribing several senators in order to gain support for key legislation in the Upper House – one of whom, Mario Pontaquarto, has confessed to taking payment for his vote and implicated the ex-President in the scandal.
