Head of the Supreme Court Ricardo Lorenzetti responded to opposition criticism denouncing an alleged “pact” with the government to secure the constitutionality sentence over the Broadcast Media Law. The maximum tribunal upholds same “historic concepts” it has defended over the past 10 years regarding property rights and freedom of expression, the judicial assured.
In an interview with a local radio station, Lorenzetti rejected allegations by UNEN opposition lawmaker Elisa Carrió who has renewed its accusation of a “pact” between the government and the Supreme Court just like she did when the Congress discussed the justice democratization bill submitted by President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner earlier this year.
“The court has made a pact with nobody. How would we make a pact over such a complex issue? People must be calm and know the court continues to be the same, holding the same historic concepts of the past 10 years regarding property rights and freedom of expression and other issues we will continue to defend,” he ffirmed.
In his statements, the head of Argentina’s top tribunal also referred to the ruling aftermath considering the Clarín media group has the “right to defend what it considers right.” “We resolve verdicts following the file evidence. There are lot of things that will be analyzed later. Each party has the right to defend what it considers right; in this case, Clarín or any other media. We have absolutely not changed our conceptions,” Lorenzetti explained.
