Amid the federal government’s efforts to increase controls in the rail system, the Interior and Transport Ministry has announced a «mandatory census» on all railway workers will be conducted, in a move that aims at determining if job tasks are being fulfilled.
Such has been the resolution published today in the official gazette. The survey will involve workers of the Mitre, Sarmiento, Roca, Belgrano Sur, San Martín and Nuevo Tren de la Costa lines within a 90-day period. Each employee will be submitting a sworn declaration form in which they will inform authorities on their personal, job, family, housing and training information.
“This is not against workers. The census seeks to determine if there is people receiving a paycheck without working,” Interior and Transport Minister Florencio Randazzo warned. “It is a decision that defends the interests of all Argentineans that finance public transportation with their contribution; of commuters that deserve that every peso that is invested results in a better service; and of railway workers who fulfill their duties on a daily basis,” Randazzo insisted.
