Gioja shows signs of recovery but prognosis still ‘uncertain’

Son of San Juan governor José Luis Gioja talked with the press and said his father “opened his eyes” in a step in his recovery after the helicopter crash he suffered last week. Still, Gioja’s prognosis remains “uncertain,” provincial authorities reported earlier today.
“We are very happy, full with joy”, Gastón Gioja told reporters after confirming the governor had opened his eyes as he continues to receive medical treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of the Guillermo Rawson hospital in San Juan city.
Meanwhile, the medical report indicated that a tracheotomy had to be performed as doctors are analyzing the possibility of taking Gioja off the mechanical ventilator. The official information showed also sedation is being “progressively reduced” with the governor’s vital signs “stable” and renal function “normal.”
On Tuesday, Gioja’s second in command, deputy governor Sergio Uñac was put in charge of the provincial administration. Government activitieshave been resumed following the mourning decreed over the death of PM Margarita Ferrá de Bertol who was flying in the helicopter that crashed on Friday last week.
