Presidential spokesman Alfredo Scoccimarro addressed the press and pro-government supporters outside the Fundación Favaloro to confirm the surgery has been “satisfactory” and that President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is “recovering favorably”. Scoccimarro added the head of state is “in very good mood” and that “she thanked the medical team and all the people” who have expressed their solidarity with her. Further official information about the president’s health will be delivered tomorrow, the official explained.
Hundreds of Kirchnerite activists staging a vigil since Tuesday’s early morning outside the clinic, celebrated and burst into joy as Scoccimarro delivered the message.
Ms. Kirchner suffers from a subdural haematoma and treatment might keep her off duty for 30 days.
While a heavy security operation has been displayed at the clinic in the Buenos Aires City neighborhood of San Cristobal, pro-government activists held a vigil outside the building with banners hoping for the president’s quick recovery during the night and today’s early morning.
Fernández de Kirchner was submitted to the Fundación Favaloro yesterday at noon to undergo pre-surgery tests. The Secretary of Public Communication released a statement with the official medical report. “The initicial proposal for repose and observation that had been indicated on Saturday 5 had to be modified since the President of the Nation Cristina Fernández de Kirchner presented yesterday Sunday 6 a tingling sense in her left arm,” the document read.
Last weekend, the 60-year old leader was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma, a clot inside her skull pressuring her brain and causing headaches, following a head trauma she suffered first back in August.
