Moyano’s message: Justice reform, October’s electoral battle

With Teamsters Union banners showering the square in front of the Congress, anti-government CGT leader Hugo Moyano delivered his speech targeting the judicial reform but taking to the fore October’s legislative electoral battle as well.

While opposition and ruling party lawmakers clashed at the Lower House session, outside Moyano accused the national government of “disguising” the justice reform under a “democratizing mask.”

“It is another lie they are getting us used to but that we don’t bear anymore,” the union leader affirmed and went on to consider Victory Front MPs “loud mouth” government supporters.

It was precisely at that point when the once ally of Néstor Kirchner and now fierce enemy of President Cristina Fernández, recalled the so called “Banelco” scandal more than a decade ago that resulted in one of the major corruption cases involving the payment of bribes to lawmakers to pass a labor reform bill during Fernando De La Rúa’s administration.

“None of those involved in the Banelco (scandal) were re-elected,” Moyano said bringing to the protest against the reform of Argentina’s judiciary system the dispute over October’s legislative elections. “Let’s don’t forget in October of those who were against the majority of Argentineans,” he urged demonstrators, a similar slogan Buenos Aires City Mayor used earlier today while expressing his criticism of the government-fueled project.
