As she has been doing over the past months to ratify the government’s decisions and her own political views, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner used her Twitter account this time to describe the recent meeting she held with Pope Francis. “I felt more Argentinean that ever,” among the key “presidential” tweets.
Fernández de Kirchner stressed the “humility” of the newly elected pontiff and explained he “thanked” her attendance to the Santa Marta Vatican residency where both head of states met and had lunch earlier this week.
In fact, the president said that the Pope expressed some “doubts” about her visit to Rome alluding to a possible “estrangement” between ex BA City Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio and the national government. “I asked him if he thought I would not come. ‘You never know,’ he humbly answered. You are right,” Fernández’s replied.
The Argentine leader also wrote that she felt “more Argentinean than ever” when she entered the Vatican to meet the Pope and a “perfect calm invaded” herself.
After recalling that she shared similar literature tastes with Francis –such as their preferences for Leopoldo Marechal’s work- and calling him an “Argentine Jesuit,” Cristina Fernández de Kirchner stressed again the significance of central issues they discussed at the Vatican: the sovereignty dispute over the Malvinas Islands, human trafficking, politics, the role of Latin America’s heroes like San Martín and Simón Bolivar as well as youth active role in Argentina´s political affairs.
“He talks to me about Malvinas, the ‘Patria Grande’ (Latin America’s unity), San Martín, Bolívar… the Pope, are we clear?,” the president continued to write and mentioned that Bergoglio praised “something that has not been seen in a while, the youth being interested in politics.”
“It hits my heart,” a moved CFK said in her official Twitter account.
