As the time to debate the Argentina-Iran accord on the floor of the Lower House, the Victory Front party is looking to muster quorum in any way possible in order to pass the bill that authorizes the creation of a bilateral “Truth Commission” in order to investigate the 1994 AMIA bombing.
Some Kirchnerite lawmakers are even considering the possibility of forcing several lawmakers with a leave of absence to resign their current positions and make them return to their seats.
Such move was confirmed by the head of the Victory Front caucus in the Lower House, Agustín Rossi, who admitted it was “a possibility.” On a radio interview, the Santa Fe senator explained that “in a session in which we need every lawmaker to be present, we are going to do everything in our power.”
Specifically, he could be talking about Chubut’s Cabinet Chief Carlos Eliceche and Tucuman’s Social Development minister Beatriz Mirkin. Both of them elected lawmakers, requested a leave of absence from their seats to become Government officials in their own provinces.
Their licenses have not been approved by the Lower House yet, for which technically, they are able to resign to their posts and attend tomorrow’s session.
For now, there are 109 Kirchnerite lawmakers willing to vote in favour of the memo, as well as 25 lawmakers from other parties.
129 lawmakers are needed in order to muster quorum.
