An anti bomb squad closed off Corrientes Avenue outside Gran Rex Theatre today after a suspicious package was found at the interior of the theatre’s premises. The threat comes a day before Colombian former president Alvaro Uribe’s conference to be held at the site.
Police sources told the BuenosAiresHerald.com that the package was found by the cleaning staff who immediately contacted the emergency services.
«We are trying to verify if it is in fact an explosive device. In that case, it will be destroyed on site,» police sources said.
The Gran Rex Theatre is located at 800 Corrientes Avenue, downtown Buenos Aires City. Traffic outside the Theatre has been diverted and streets are closed starting at the Obelisco landmark.
