Bugatto was currently playing for third division team Tristán Suárez on a loan that would expire on June to mark his return to the first division’s Banfield.
Buenos Aires Province governor Daniel Scioli said today he was appalled by the death of Banfield’s reserve football team player Lautaro Bugatto during a shootout between a Buenos Aires province police officer and robbers in the Southern Greater Buenos Aires district of Almirante Brown.
The twenty-year-old player was shot dead at his house’s front door. Scioli told the local media today he was “appalled and consternated” by Bugatto’s death.
“This is obviously not the police force we want,” Scioli stressed. The governor also backed the footballer’s aunt who said this morning that the incident was not the result of “lack of safety” in the streets. “She is right. It is not a case of lack of security, it is murder.”
Scioli also expressed his sentiments to «the family, Banfield football team, friends and all of those going through this dramatic times.”
Police officer Damián Benítez (32) was immediately arrested after the incident and remains in custody.
