Subway D line service resumed after unexpected protest

The D line subway line service resumed today at 1.50 pm after being brought to a halt for nearly three hours while workers carried out an unexpected union protest, Metrovías informed.

The line, which runs between Catedral and Congreso de Tucumán stations, was shut down from 11 am this morning.

The subway workers who carried out the new protest pertain to the “supervisors” union (APSESBA) and did so “to demand the changing of a supervisor’s hours,” the company stated.

Earlier today, workers from the Subway and Pre-Metro Workers Union Association opened ticket barriers from 9 am to 11 am from the main stations across all subway lines, allowing commuters to travel for free today.

The opening of ticket barriers is to be repeated again tomorrow between 9 am and 11 am, at Carabobo y Primera Junta (A line), Federico Lacroze y Los Incas (B line), Constitución (C line), Congreso de Tucumán (D line), Plaza de los Virreyes (E line) and Parque Patricios (H line) stations.

In addition, workers yesterday announced a strike for Thursday between 11 am and 4 pm demanding Metrovías Company to include them in the collective bargaining talks.

Thursday’s protest demands the “opening of wage negotiations and investments” to improve services. On announcing the measure yesterday, the union stated that actions would intensify if demands are not met, holding both the national and City governments responsible.
