Timerman denies EU’s complaining letter over YPF

Foreign Minister Héctor Timerman denied having received a complaining letter from the European Union’s Commissioner for Trade, Karel de Gucht, over the government’s expropriation plans of oil and gas company Repsol-YPF.

Timerman denied the existence of any letter and moreover emphasized “There is no such letter», and added, «We are already used to see the EU making announcements that then they do not follow on.”

According to European sources, a complaining letter dated April 19, was sent to Timerman, Economy Minister Hernán Lorenzino, and Industry Minister Débora Giorgi, warning that the decision to expropriate YPF “endangers the trade and investment relations between Argentina and our bloc.”
