Senator Aníbal Fernández stated today that “insults and offensive remarks towards Argentina demonstrate a lack of respect for the sovereignty of our country,» in reference to the reactions of Spanish authorities, media coverage and former Repsol-YPF board members to President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s announcement of sending to Congress a draft bill to expropriate Repsol-YPF.
“In my eyes, all of the insults come from Spanish journalists, probably bribed, and from the former head of the company,” he said.
Thus, he added that “when they talk about legal guarantees, we have to take into consideration that the decision was taken within the framework of the Argentine rule of law.”
The national senator also lashed out against the lack of commitment of the oil and gas company to the country.
“When they came to work at an Argentine company they enjoyed all the advantages, leading us to shortages, thus never putting themselves in our shoes. They came to do their own thing and to make easy money,” the Senator concluded.
