A group of around a hundred teachers take over the first floor of the City Education Ministry, along Paseo Colón 200, as they awaited authorities to receive them in order to discuss the closing of 221 school grades by the City Government.
“We want Minister Esteban Bullrich to receive us because tomorrow the period set by the City Government to close the school grades and we are teachers from the northern area of the City and our students are very concerned over this situation,” a teacher said.
The teacher explained that Mayor Mauricio Macri’s administration uses the argument that many children do not have access to schools in the southern neighbourhoods but that is a lie because the education budget has decreased and thus they will not be able to host all the children who are left out of the system.”
“We have organized rallies, given public classes and have had a strong participation of parents, because there children are very anguished, because they do not know where or with whom they will study,” she added.
“School 8 is one of the affected by the measure. I would have to teach to 30 students if this is applied, which is far from the ideal from a pedagogic point of view, because there were students who had their class mates and now they will have to be mixed with others,” the teacher, who identified herself simply as Inés, concluded.
