Eight construction workers died and four were seriously injured after the partial collapse of a building in a construction site in Corrientes province. The incident took place shortly after 1 pm today, as the sixth floor of a building located at San Martin 600 partially collapsed and 12 construction workers were trapped among the rubble some 20 metres high.
Corrientes provincial Police identified the victims as Marcos Román González, Ramón Valentín Zacarías, Diego Hernán Rodríguez, Jorge Ismael Acevedo, Eduardo Luciano Acevedo, William Arnaldo Valenzuela, Enrique Eduardo Sosa and Pablo Alejandro Medina.
The four injured men remain in critical condition in the intensive care units in different Corrientes capital hospitals.
Reports indicated that the construction site had not been authorized by the Municipality’s control organizations. The prosecutor in the case, Gustavo Robinau said the deaths will be labeled as manslaughter and that he could order the detention of the businessmen responsible of the construction site.
The Secretary General of the UOCRA construction workers’ union Juan Avalos, accused the company behind of having 17 infringements in different construction sites along Corrientes City.
