Al Wasl coach Diego Maradona kept it up the war-of-words with rival Pelé, believing himself to be more passionate about football than the Brazil legend.
Pelé made the comment in an interview with Fifa.com, stating: “I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music and Michelangelo was born to paint.”
Maradona, however, took his opportunity to fire back at the Brazil legend’s comments with a few of his own, referring to himself as a “rock-star” of the game.
“If Pele thinks he’s the Beethoven of football then I’m Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards and the Bono of football, because I have so much passion.”
Maradona went on further, remarking that the former New York Cosmos striker needed to make sure he was taking the right medication before making any statements.
«Pele may have taken the morning pills at night time, so he should make sure he takes the right pills.”
“Pele has said he’s the Beethoven of football,” he continued. “I’ve never heard any Beethoven music in a match, so as I’ve told you before, anytime he takes the wrong pill he comes up with a crazy statement. It would be better if he changed his doctor.”
