In a radio interview today, Vidal stressed the City Government feels they ran out of negotiations alternatives.
Buenos Aires Deputy Mayor María Eugenia Vidal warned today the the City government will not be taking over the management of the subway system unless the National Government improves the quality of the system as a whole, which could amount up to a “billion dollar” debt.
The official remarked only a “political decision by the President” could save the negotiations.
“A meeting between the Mayor and the President is needed. I don’t understand why this is so hard to be arranged at this point in time,” she complained.
In a radio interview today, Vidal stressed the City Government feels they ran out of negotiations alternatives.
“We ran out of negotiation arguments. We are talking about a billion dollar in debt from some minor work that should have been done in recent years, just like it happened with the trains and Aerolineas Argentines,” Vidal said.
She also referred to safety issues on the subway operations while citing the recent tragic Once train crash.
“It is our responsibility to consider the possibility of an accident. There are 90-year old trains running, even the unions admit some are obsolete. It is our duty to say there is a potential risk of accident,” the official warned.
