Subway resumes service after 12 hour strike

The six subway lines resumed their service shortly after 5 pm, following a 12 hour strike that affected over a million passengers and caused a chaos of traffic in the City.

The strike was backed by train and subway drivers union UTA due to the withdrawal of Federal Police officers of subway stations and banned the six lines and the tram from functioning normally.

The strike led thousands of commuters to use their cars to access the City and buses and trains were even more crammed than usual during morning rush hour.

After President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced that Federal Police officers would guard subway stations for another month during her speech in the beginning of ordinary Congress sessions, the strike was lifted and service was resumed shortly after 5 pm.
