Macri suspends negotiations for transfer of Subway management

City Mayor Mauricio Macri.
In a live press conference from City Hall, Mayor Mauricio Macri said that “the quality of the subway system doesn’t differ much from that of the railway system.” He accused the National Government of engaging in a “10-year disinvestment process” and criticized the Government’s decision to remove all Federal Police officers from the Subway stations.
He also asked to meet with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.
“This is as far as we can go,” Macri said from City Hall.
The Mayor questioned the National Government’s decision to withdraw the Federal Police presence from the subway stations, and assured: “not only (Security Minister Nilda Garré) withdrew them from hospitals and schools in the City, now they are withdrawing them from the subway.”
Garré announced the Government’s measure on Wednesday morning, for which the PRO leader called a press conference to announce his decision to suspend negotiations.
“We are still waiting for a change in their attitude, for some good faith. We want to do more than just a little effort but it’s hard to work in these terms,” Macri added.
After a recent decision to raise the subway tariff to $2.50, the Mayor stated that the management of the subway was going back to the National Government.
