After ratifying that the Government would not postpone the new legislation on imports as local business leaders had requested, Vice-President Amado Boudou minimized the current conflict with Brazilian industrialists, who also complain about the new restrictions.
“It’s understandable that people are upset,” the acting-President said, although he explained that these alleged differences in the bilateral trade relationship “mean less than 6 percent of the total volume of transactions between both countries.»
The new AFIP resolution, which makes it mandatory to ask for Government authorization for every imported product, is expected to go in effect in the next few hours, after it is published in the Official Gazette.
Boudou praised trade levels between Argentina and Brazil, which have “tripled” in the last few years. “Both Governments have put in place policies of harmonic growth, articulating trade.”
