The leaders of the Socialist bloc and the Radical Party, Hermes Binner and Ricardo Alfonsín, met at an international summit and renewed the claims for the Malvinas Islands sovereignty.
Both leaders of the opposition were part of the International Socialist Executive Council Summit that is being held at San José, Costa Rica.
The ex governor and the lawmaker travelled in the same plane from Buenos Aires, and were also together at the encounter.
“Our relationship is good, of course,” Binner said although he added that during the encounter they “did not talk” about the chance of working together in a bloc.
They were both part of the elaboration of the text that will be presented on Tuesday at the last day of the summit.
The presentation stated that the “reasons” that triggered the decision taken by the Latin American and Caribbean International Socialist Council “persists,” and highlighted the “historical and permanent claims of Argentina over the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, Southern Georgias, Sandwich and the maritime spaces surrounding them.”
“Urge to obey the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Decolonization Committee summoning both parts to negotiate over this issue that involve the conflict over these Islands,” it continued.
This presentation was not only signed by Binner and Alfonsín, but also by Socialist Juan Carlos Zabalza and UCR’s Marcelo Stubrin, who are also present at the summit.
Santa Fe’s ex governor assured that “Argentina is acting in the correct way and it’s coherent in its claim.”
